Fran Roberts Named American Academy of Nursing Fellow

Grand Canyon University Executive Joins Esteemed Cadre of Professionals

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - November 15, 2010) - Grand Canyon University's Fran Roberts, PhD, DHL, RN is an accomplished healthcare professional with a long list of acronyms trailing her name, but the one she received recently in Washington, DC is known as the granddaddy of them all.

Roberts was one of the nurse leaders who were inducted as Fellows in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), recognizing significant contributions to nursing and health care. The rigorous selection process is based, in part, on the extent to which nominees' nursing careers influence health policies and health care delivery for the benefit of all Americans.

"Selection for membership in the Academy is one of the most prestigious honors in the field of nursing," said Academy President Catherine L. Gillis. "The Academy Fellowship represents the nation's top nurse researchers, policymakers, scholars, executives and practitioners."

As the GCU College of Nursing and Health Sciences Vice President of Strategic Business Alliances, Fran oversees initiatives that help advance GCU's curriculum and also bring community benefit. Since joining GCU first as a faculty member, and then as Dean of the College of Nursing, she has expanded capacity for nursing students through strategic alliances with more than 20 hospitals throughout Arizona. Prior to joining GCU she was a vice president with Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association, and executive director of the Arizona State Board of Nursing.

"This honor represents the ultimate achievement in the nursing profession, and reinforces what we have long known about Fran and her impact on our profession and on our community," said GCU President Kathy Player. "Her passion is infectious, and our students and her colleagues benefit from it."
