Franek Technologies Receives Superior Customer Service Ratings During ISO 9001-2000 Certification

Customer Satisfaction Survey Shows That Key Customers Are Highly Satisfied With Franek Technologies' Products and Have Received Exceptional Customer Service and Support; Survey Also Reveals Other Benefits of Certified Power Protection

TUSTIN, CA--(Marketwire - October 21, 2008) - As part of the Company's continued growth plan, Franek Technologies, the leader in certified Category III-3 Laboratory Battery Backup Power Protection Systems (LPS/UPS), is in the final stages of completing its ISO 9001-2000 certification. A central component of this certification is ensuring customer satisfaction with the goal of continuous process improvement. To establish a baseline of customer satisfaction, a survey of key customers was conducted, yielding excellent results that exceeded company expectations. The surveys found that Franek Technologies' power protection systems are highly reliable, easy to install, easy to bring on-line, and extend the overall lifetime of protected instrumentation, while protecting the integrity of results and enabling the instrumentation to perform at maximum potential, according to manufacturers' specifications. Customer service and support was rated exceptionally high with all survey responses indicating that the provided customer service met each respondent's unique laboratory requirements.

An interesting additional finding was that Franek Technologies' units not only provided immediate power protection of sensitive laboratory instrumentation, but also pointed out problems with the equipment and laboratory design upon installation and continuing operation. One cited example was from a customer whose LPS started beeping immediately once it was plugged in. It was a brand new instrument in a brand new building. Due to the LPS beeping, it was quickly discovered that the outlet had not been properly wired by the electrician and the LPS immediately identified a power issue. In another instance, a contractor had incorrectly split a three-phase line, causing power fluctuations that directly affected the power circuit. As soon as Franek Technologies' LPS was installed, its insistent beeping notified the laboratory manager that there was something wrong with the incoming power. Troubleshooting showed how a wiring phase split had been done incorrectly and caused an imbalance on the power source. Once the electrician was called in to fix the line problem, the LPS stopped alarming. The correction to the incoming wiring was confirmed by the LPS' onboard computer diagnostic function. All during this installation, operation and rework process, no inconsistent test results were produced and no test data was compromised. In still another case, a newly installed LPS beeped right from the start indicating a fault condition. Troubleshooting revealed a defective load (bad solder joint on a circuit board of the mass spectrometer it was protecting). The LPS annunciated an "out of tolerance" load condition, which assisted the instrumentation engineer to determine the root cause of the problem. These cited examples highlight some of the additional ways laboratories have benefited from providing supplemental category III-3 power protection for key instrumentation.

The ISO 9001 survey feedback came from such broad based customers as Amgen; Applied Biosystems (Applera); Dormitory Authority, State of New York (DASNY); New York City's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME); Pennington Biomedical Research Center (PBRC), Louisiana State University (LSU) System; the State of Wyoming Public Health Laboratory; Texas A & M University; University of Michigan Medical School Biomedical Mass Spectrometry Facility; UNLV Biotechnology Center at the Shadow Lane Campus; and the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSC) at San Antonio. All of these customers have a vested interest in protecting complete laboratories. Collaboratively, these laboratories run instrumentation from key industry manufacturers, including Agilent, Applied Biosystems, Beckman-Coulter, Becton Dickinson, Ciphergen, Bio-Rad (MJ Research), Illumina (Solexa) PerkinElmer, Roche, Thermo Fisher, and Varian.

Franek Technologies plans to complete the ISO 9001-2000 certification and all audits, which aim to assist the company in satisfying its customers, meeting regulatory requirements, and achieving continual improvement, by the end of the year.
