The Fraser Institute: Media Advisory/Mike Harris and Preston Manning to Share their Vision for 'A Canada Strong and Free'

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 27, 2005) - Mike Harris and Preston Manning, will speak on Tuesday, November 1, at a Fraser Institute roundtable dinner in Toronto, on "A Canada Strong and Free".

Harris and Manning will discuss the key recommendations of their new policy paper, Caring for Canadians, released earlier this week. Manning and Harris say Canada can dramatically improve its approach to K-12 education, welfare, health and child care by better balancing federal/provincial responsibilities, offering more freedom of choice, and empowering Canadians with personal responsibility.

Caring for Canadians is Volume II in the "Canada Strong and Free" series of papers which present their vision for making Canada the best democratic federation in the world, offering its citizens the highest quality of life and economic performance, and setting a new standard of international citizenship and leadership.

Harris became the twenty-second Premier of Ontario following a landslide election victory in June 1995, and held that office until 2002. He joined The Fraser Institute as Senior Fellow in October 2002.

After founding the Reform Party of Canada, Manning served as a Member of Parliament from 1993 to 2001 and as Leader of the Opposition from 1997 to 2000. He is a Senior Fellow at The Fraser Institute and is President and CEO of the Manning Centre for Building Democracy.
