FRAYED HEALTH CARE WORKERS BRING THEIR REPORT TO QUEEN'S PARK

OFL NEWS CONFERENCE - MAIN LEGISLATIVE BUILDING, MEDIA STUDIO, QUEEN'S PARK, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2005 AT 10:00 A.M. Attention: Assignment Editor, Health/Medical Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 15, 2005) - An Ontario Federation of Labour news conference at Queen's Park will release a report compiled by the OFL on the exhausted state of health care workers in every sector of the health care system.

Understaffed & Under Pressure: A reality check by Ontario health care workers, exposes the conditions of the fatigued workers who are trying to provide the proper care for our society's sick, injured and frail in a drastically understaffed health care system. The Report calls on the Ontario government to restore and strengthen the public health care system.

The report is based on what health care workers told the OFL during a 15-city tour of the province earlier this year. Emergency services workers, home care, hospitals, long term care, retirement homes, mental health and public health workers want this information publicized - this is their report.

In attendance:

Leah Casselman, President, Ontario Public Service Employees Union
Linda Haslam-Stroud, President, Ontario Nurses' Association
Sid Ryan, President, Canadian Union of Public Employees (Ontario)
Wayne Samuelson, President, Ontario Federation of Labour
