Fredericton FROSTival, the Maritime's Largest Winter Festival, Announces Full 2014 Schedule

80 Events Over 4 Weekends Highlight the Top Fredericton, New Brunswick Winter Events

FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwired - Jan. 7, 2014) - The most anticipated New Brunswick winter celebration announced its full schedule today which includes more than 80 events over four jam packed weekends. Entering its second year, FROSTival takes place January 24 - February 16 and includes the area's best outdoor festivals, events, and indoor cultural experiences.

Managed by Fredericton Tourism, FROSTival is headlined by the greater Fredericton area's major winter festivals including; Winterfesthiver, the Shivering Songs Festival, Kingswood Cup Youth Pond Hockey Tournament, a host of events at Crabbe Mountain, and Snowfest. "We were very happy with last year's celebration and are thrilled with how many events have partnered for this year's FROSTival" says City of Fredericton Mayor Brad Woodside. "With over 80 events taking place over 4 weekends we're beginning to build critical mass, giving people a reason to visit with a full slate of great options of things to do in the Capital City".

FROSTival kicks off January 24 with the greatly anticipated Shivering Songs Festival, Atlantic Canada's best new music event. The weekend continues with a full slate of cultural activities including a Gallery Hop, Flashlight Tour, hands-on edVentures Fredericton Workshops, Old Fashioned Skating Party, Campfire Sing Alongs, a Polar Bear Plunge, and more!

FROSTival's second weekend, January 31 - February 2 is a combination of family and nightlife beginning with New Brunswick's top outdoor winter family festival; Winterfesthiver, at its new location on the grounds of the Capital Exhibit Centre. Fredkid will introduce a weekly family movie with a 'frosty' theme, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery will hold a Family Art Workshop, and Kingswood Park will be throwing a Family Fun FROSTival party. Crabbe Mountain's Speed Week is back with race clubs from around Atlantic Canada. In addition, the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival will bring back its popular Mardi Gras at the Market, the Capital Exhibit Centre will hold Frostbite: Battle of the Bands, and Fredericton will see the first fully staged local opera performance featuring Dido and Aeneas.

The fun continues on weekend three (February 7 - 9) with an outdoor/sports themed weekend starting with the Kingswood Cup Pond Hockey Tournament, the Wostawea Loppet, SnoSoftball Tournament, Snow Cricket Festival, Snowmobile Xtreme Stunt Show, and an open house at the Abony Tennis Centre. Rounding out the weekend are a number of cultural events including the Capital Culinary Challenge, Doc Talks Festival, Theatre productions, and more!

FROSTival wraps up with more family fun and a special Valentine's Day weekend (February 14 - 16) starting with new partner Oromocto Snowfest, Mactaquac Park Winter Wellness activities, and a new Silent Night Snowshoe Hike. You're sure to find fun Valentine's Day themed events including a dinner show, valen-ski, valentine's day skating, sleigh rides, Art Lovers Tours at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, and The Science of Love - an adult only night at Science East to name a few.

Also included within the more than 80 events, we're excited to announce The Fredericton Playhouse will have shows every weekend of FROSTival.
