Free Range Studios Launches Farm Bill Food Battle With Message: Act Now or Pay

BERKELEY, CA--(Marketwire - August 28, 2007) - "The Farm Bill Food Battle," the most recent socially conscious online film by Free Range Studios, went live today at www.foodbattle.org and shared an important message with its viewers: Americans will pay a high price if the junk food industry continues to benefit from the farm bill.

The film, featuring a battle between "good food" and "junk food" for control over the 2007 farm bill, uses humor to show what's at stake when the bill goes to the Senate floor later this month. The film's companion site, www.foodbattle.org, is an educational resource for viewers and provides tools to take action.

"Like our other films, 'The Farm Bill Food Battle' carries on the tradition of presenting a serious issue and its solution in a way that is easy-to-understand and entertaining," said Emily Weinstein, campaign strategy director at Free Range Studios. "We're not only educating consumers about key elements of the farm bill; we're offering options for how viewers can get involved and sharing the good news that change is possible."

The three-minute film showcases an epic battle between a Special Interest Farm Bill and a Fair Farm Bill for control over this massive legislation. The fight between the snack cake and the organic, family farm apple is set in areas that will be most affected by the bill -- snack marts, farmers markets and America's cities.

The film presents the harsh realities of a Special Interest Farm Bill and the positive result of a 2007 farm bill that promotes family-farm agriculture. In the former, damaging land management practices and toxic pesticide use; cheap junk foods and growing waistlines; and increasingly profitable industrial food producers win out. The film shows that a Fair Farm Bill that supports farming communities and builds farmers markets; makes organic produce available to all Americans; and promotes sustainable, organic and local farm practices that protect the environment and promote better health can be possible with citizen action.
