Freehand 2010 Ltd: Appointment of Chairman

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 19, 2011) - Freehand 2010 Ltd, the medical robotics company that gives surgeons direct and precise control of cameras during keyhole surgery, is pleased to announce the appointment of Alistair Taylor as Company Chairman as it looks to further develop its potential in the global growth market of laparoscopic surgery.

This appointment follows the appointment of Rosemary Cunningham-Thomas as Chief Executive Officer and the Company's recent transformation from a research-based venture to a worldwide sales and marketing driven business.

An experienced Company Chairman and Non-Executive Director in Life Science Companies, Mr Taylor was, amongst other notable achievements, a founder of Biocompatibles International Plc, a one-time top FTSE 250 Company which floated at a valuation of £75m before selling its coronary stent business to Abbott Labs and its contact lens division to Coopervision for a total of over £250 million. Prior to that he was CEO of Schneider Worldwide Inc, a company that he purchased for Pfizer for $16 million, which was later sold by Pfizer to Boston Scientific for in excess of $2 billion.

Mr Taylor benefits from a great deal of exposure to both the pharmaceutical and med-tech market sectors. His particular emphasis has been on start-up and early stage companies, with considerable experience in both US and European private and public fund raisings, IPO's, and strategic partnerships with major healthcare companies.

He has been integral to five successful fund raisings in the last 18 months, one public totalling £25 million and four private for the sum of £6 million, in a difficult financial climate. Mr Taylor's total public/private funds raised to date is in excess of £300 million.

Rosemary Cunningham-Thomas, Chief Executive, commented:

"We are delighted that Alistair Taylor will be joining us here at Freehand. It was essential we appointed a person of Alistair's experience and calibre at this strategically vital stage for the Company. His proven business building skills and track record in assisting successful fundraisings were an optimum fit for our objectives and outlook going forward. Alistair's leadership, input and foresight will be highly valuable as we press to maximise sales of our unique product that will change the face of modern surgery".
