FreePlay Labs Licenses Classic "Cowboys & Aliens" From Platinum Studios

Interactive Software Games Based on Graphic Novel

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 12, 2011) - Platinum Studios, Inc. (OTCBB: PDOS), an entertainment company that controls an international library of more than 4,000 comic book characters which it adapts, produces and licenses for all forms of media, and FreePlay Labs, a new publisher focused on digitally distributed interactive entertainment, announced today that Platinum Studios has licensed its top-selling "Cowboys & Aliens" graphic novel to FreePlay to create interactive games for the Apple's iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Versions of the game for other hardware platforms are also in development.

"Cowboys & Aliens" tells the story of an alien invasion in the late 19th Century. The graphic novel was created by Platinum Studios, Inc. Chairman and CEO Scott Mitchell Rosenberg and was first published in December 2006, when it became the largest ordered graphic novel of the year.

"Platinum Studios' 'Cowboys & Aliens' is a powerful property that lends itself perfectly to interactive entertainment," said Greg Easley, President of FreePlay Labs. "We have been working on these games for many months now and anticipate being able to release the first of them this summer. We are big believers in mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad, which are emerging as a dominant platform for high-quality casual games."

"FreePlay Labs understood the opportunity of uniting the cowboys and Indians to fight against the alien invasion and the cool gadgetry and combat play that it represents," said Platinum's Rosenberg. "I can't wait to play this game!"

A feature film version of "COWBOYS & ALIENS," starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wild, directed by Jon Favreau ("Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2"), executive produced by Steven Spielberg and produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Rosenberg will be released in North America on July 29, 2011 via DreamWorks and Universal Pictures with Paramount Pictures handling the international release of the picture.

The team at FreePlay Labs includes veterans from leading game publishers including Atari, Disney, EA, Microsoft, and Sony. Its in-house capabilities include production, marketing, and distribution for major license-based interactive properties. Members of FreePlay's development studio have worked on hit game franchises ranging from Madden NFL to Lord of the Rings. FreePlay's goal for "Cowboys & Aliens" is to bring the property to life with innovative, tuned gameplay and striking high-end visuals. FreePlay is also developing expansion packs to give the game long-term playability on iOS devices.

"Cowboys & Aliens" is just one of the properties Platinum Studios' controls among a multi-universe library of over 4,000 comic characters. While other large comics-based libraries are already spoken for, Platinum Studios remains independent of major entertainment studio affiliation. Marvel was recently acquired by Disney for $4 Billion, and is the second major comic library to be acquired by a Hollywood studio. DC Comics, which is owned by Warner Bros., recently announced a newly-revamped business model, focusing on reaching deeper into DC's catalog of characters.

In addition to FreePlay Games, Platinum has announced licensing deals on the original "Cowboys & Aliens" graphic novel for apparel, with RGS Entertainment, and publishing, with It Books, a division of HarperCollins.

Platinum Studios' film and TV division has the independently financed feature, "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night" with partners Hyde Park Entertainment and Omnilab Media readying for release in North America on April 29, 2011. In addition, Platinum is developing "Unique" with "Harry Potter" producer David Heyman at Walt Disney Pictures, "Vice" with producer Andrew Lazar and Top Cow Productions, Inc., an untitled feature film project at Sony Pictures Animation, "Nightfall" with producer William Stuart, "Blood Nation" with producer Alexandra Milchan. In addition, Platinum Studios is developing "MetaDocs" for TV with Syfy, FremantleMedia and Landscape Entertainment. Platinum's Rosenberg would serve as a producer on all Platinum Studios film projects and an executive producer on all Platinum Studios TV projects.
