Freestyle Competition Brings Alberta's Best to Sunshine Village


BANFF, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Feb. 12, 2013) - Southern Alberta's brightest young athletes took to the slopes to compete in the under 16 Alberta Freestyle Competition at Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort this past weekend.

Over 120 of Alberta's best freestyle skiers aged six to 16 competed in a moguls race Saturday on Goat's Eye Mountain and a slopestyle event in the Grizzly Terrain Park.

"The Southern Alberta Freestyle Competition is such a great display of young athleticism and at Sunshine Village, we are pleased to provide the venue for these young skiers to showcase their skills," says Dave Riley, Chief Operating Officer at Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort.

Alberta has a long history of producing top-level freestyle skiers. Current national team members hailing from Alberta include Rosalind Groenewoud, Keltie Hansen, Megan Gunning, Dania Assaly, Noah Bowman, Kris Atkinson and Mike Riddle in halfpipe, Chelsea Henitiuk and Luke Ulsifer in moguls, and Jonathan Vellner in aerials.

Alberta is also the home of mogul legend Jennifer Heil, Olympic gold medalist and four-time world champion.
