Freight Management Inc. Launches 'OptiGreen Program' With the World's First Software to Measure and Help Lower Shippers' Carbon Emissions

FMI Awarded EPA's SmartWay Certification

ANAHEIM, CA--(Marketwire - July 7, 2008) - Freight Management Inc., a worldwide leader in the logistics industry, today introduced 'OptiGreen,' a revolutionary 'green initiative' designed to help shippers reduce their carbon footprint on the environment. FMI recently was awarded a SmartWay Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency for their innovative Transportation Management Programs and Systems that contribute to reducing climate change emissions and other air pollutants. Being selected as a SmartWay participant distinguishes FMI as an industry leader dedicated to advancing environmental performance and efficiency.

The OptiGreen Program is built around 'Distribution Pollution Solution,' FMI's brand new patented software that can calculate carbon emissions between departure and arrival then recommend alternate shipping strategies, methods or routes to lower those carbon emissions. By having this valuable data, companies that want to reduce their carbon footprint on the environment can now do something proactive to achieve that goal. As an added benefit, DPS will also help companies reduce fuel costs and operate more efficiently in shipping to multiple distribution centers. FMI's OptiGreen Program comes at a time when worldwide concern about global warming is at an all-time high and fuel costs are soaring with no end in sight.

"OptiGreen is FMI's answer to the growing concern over global warming and the impact of carbon emissions from the shipping process," states Bob Walters, president of Freight Management Inc. "We designed OptiGreen for two types of companies: Those that operate multiple warehouses and want to minimize transit time and freight costs, and those that want to reduce per shipment carbon emissions."

By inputting the shipment weight, mode of transport, origin and destination zip codes on each shipment, FMI's DPS calculator creates a report showing the amount of carbon emissions generated. The information comes from research by top industry experts and from the standards outlined in the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Initiative. The OptiGreen Program then utilizes these reports to explore other models of shipping, ways to consolidate shipments moving to and from the same locations or to explore reduction of out of region movements.

Companies who can most directly benefit from the OptiGreen Program are those with freight costs exceeding $1 million per year. However, FMI is also offering this educational tool to any companies interested in identifying ways to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

The OptiGreen Program is the latest in a series of groundbreaking, customized freight programs by FMI to reduce customers' shipping costs, offset fuel surcharges, and streamline operations. Freight programs may include LTL, TL, small-parcel, international and bulk tanker solutions. Headquartered in Anaheim, CA with offices in Dusseldorf, Germany, FMI is the only logistics company that offers these state of the art software programs.
