French-Language Anti-Bias Curriculum Resource

Now Available From ETFO

Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 16, 2006) - The lack of French-language resources and lesson plans has prompted the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) to produce a French-language supplement of one of its most popular anti-bias curriculum resources.

"Effaçons Les Préjugés Pour de Bon", the French-language supplement to "We're Erasing Prejudice for Good", is posted on the ETFO website where it can be downloaded at no charge. It was created by a writing team of ETFO members in response to teacher concerns about the lack of French-language curriculum resources.

This comprehensive online curriculum document provides access to French-language resources and complete lesson plans focused on equity and inclusion, with kindergarten to grade 8 materials organized according to ten monthly themes. The document's goal is to provide educators and students with a viable method to understand and eliminate prejudice in today's diverse world.

The English-Language anti-bias resource, We're Erasing Prejudice for Good, was completed in 1999 and updated in 2002. Over the years, it has become one of ETFO's most requested teaching resources, with over 2000 sold since 2002. In 2001, it was a finalist in the Canadian Race Relations Foundation's Award of Excellence Program that recognizes excellence and innovation in race relations practice in Canada.

ETFO recognizes that we live in a society characterized by individual and systemic discrimination against particular groups. Within this context, ETFO defines equity as fairness achieved through proactive measures, which result in equity for all. We're Erasing Prejudice for Good and Effaçons Les Préjugés Pour de Bon are two of the many resources provided by ETFO to combat racism and bias in today's society.

"Effaçons Les Préjugés Pour de Bon" can be downloaded from the ETFO website (www.etfo.ca) by entering "We're Erasing Prejudice for Good" in the Search window and then clicking on the link for the French-language document.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 70,000 public elementary school teachers and education workers across Ontario and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
