Friendliest Five Cities in the Lone Star State Revealed

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 13, 2012) - According to Tagged, the social network for meeting new people, Pasadena, Texas takes the top spot for friendliest city in the Lone Star State. From Central to Northeast Texas, encompassing four different counties and more than 830 square miles, the cities of Killeen, Grand Prairie, Houston and McKinney round out the top-five friendliest cities in Texas. It's true; don't mess with Texas, the state with a big heart and friendly cowboys.

Tagged's friendship index measured overall 'friendly activity,' including friend requests, virtual gift giving and other expressions of adoration (winks and luvs) for users located in cities with populations of 100,000 or more. The index reflects activity on Tagged from January to May, 2012.

The top five friendliest cities* in Texas are:

1. Pasadena, 315
2. Killeen, 240
3. Grand Prairie, 231
4. Houston, 223
5. McKinney, 222

*Friendliness measured by the average number of friend requests, gift giving and expressions (winks and luvs) sent by active users in each location.

"Texans are anything but lonely with the top-five friendliest cities housing more than 2.5 million diverse down-home residents," said Vice President of Marketing, Steve Sarner. "Folks in the northeast region of Texas, reaching down to parts of central Texas, clearly enjoy meeting new people, showing affection to their friends and building important lasting relationships."

Bigger might often be better in Texas, but the true mark of the Lone Star State is its diverse culture and traditions, which can be influenced by a mix of Dixie and southwest spice. Oversized hats have nothing on the state's bighearted, hard-working and friendly 25 million Texans who call the state home:

  • Pasadena is home to the largest volunteer fire department in the United States. It's a place where helping your neighbor, near and far, is part of everyday life. Nearly 150,000 residents also enjoy the life of the Urban Cowboy (filmed on location in 1980), good times, good spirits and great friendships.
  • Home to military training post, Fort Hood, Killeen residents are closely allied to the steady stream of military families and personnel who make their way to one of the fastest growing cities in Texas. Supporting local troops with a tip of the hat, a friendly wave or handshake of gratitude make Killeen a welcoming and friendly place to serve, live and work.
  • Grand Prairie crosses three county lines -- Dallas, Ellis and Tarrant -- and appeals to social residents who want easy access to Dallas and Fort Worth but prefer the small-town feel of living outside the city. Over 175,000 Mid-City people live, work and play the Texas way in Grand Prairie where they hone their outgoing and friendly nature through line dancing and more.
