FrieslandCampina (Hong Kong) Wins Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards

Black&White Recognized for Initiating Hong Kong Milk Tea Day to Carry Forward the Unique Hong Kong Style Milk Tea Making Technique

HONG KONG, CHINA--(Marketwired - Jun 22, 2015) - FrieslandCampina (Hong Kong) Limited was named the winner of the Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards 2015.

The award honours FrieslandCampina Hong Kong and its Black&White brand for the significant achievement in sustaining the unique Hong Kong style milk tea by celebrating the city's first Hong Kong Milk Tea Day starting in 2013. FrieslandCampina has contributed to carrying forward the unique Hong Kong style milk-tea making technique to the next generation of the Hong Kong community, and has contributed to promoting public awareness on the continuation of the world-famous Hong Kong style milk tea -- an important local cultural icon which has been listed in the First Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory of Hong Kong announced in 2014.

Mr. Harvey Uong, Managing Director of FrieslandCampina Hong Kong, commented on the award: "We are honoured to be named one of the winners in the Social Empowerment category of the Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards 2015. This is an important recognition for Black&White and its continuous efforts in the advocacy of sustaining Hong Kong's unique Milk Tea Culture."

Since the colonial era, Hong Kong style milk tea has become a signature of local culture. Hong Kong milk tea masters spent decades practicing and perfecting their craft to create the precise cup of Hong Kong milk tea. Black&White Evaporated Milk, as the most widely recommended and used brand by Hong Kong milk tea masters, is the key ingredient of Hong Kong style milk tea enabling the unique taste, texture, aroma and richness associated with Hong Kong style milk tea. Mr. Uong added: "Black&White grew up with Hong Kong since the 1940s. It is our commitment and privilege to not only bring quality nutritious dairy products to local consumers but also to play a role in the moments when Hong Kong people drink a cup of Hong style milk tea to recharge and reconnect with friends and family during their busy day. We are committed to sustaining this unique Hong Kong cultural beverage by passing on this heritage to future generations via the junior milk tea masters training program in collaboration with our local community partners."

By initiating Hong Kong Milk Tea Day, Black&White has helped to sustain the Hong Kong style milk tea making technique through partnerships with local community organizations including the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong (ELCHK), the Holland Hostel of Hong Kong Student Aid Society, and the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions Education Foundation Limited (HKCTU) -- with collaboration with these institutions, we have helped to provide training to the younger generation of Hong Kongers, preparing them for a career in the food and beverage catering industry. Black&White has also joined forces with over 200 teashop customers to promote milk tea drinking culture by distributing free milk tea to the public at different key districts in the city.

AREA is the region's most prestigious recognition for organizations that go beyond standard business operations to fulfill its responsibilities to its internal and external environment. This year's awards attracted more than 300 nominations from organizations across the region from which, over 130 entries were submitted in the Social Empowerment category.
