From Information to Innovation: International top names of the information sector arrive in Finland

HELSINKI, FINLAND--(Marketwire - May 12, 2010) - Finland will host a notable international information sector event when ICSTI (International Council for Scientific and Technical Information) organizes its annual conference in Helsinki June 10-11, 2010. The conference brings together a large group of the sector's top names and decision-makers. The conference's Finnish organizers are Tietoasiantuntijat ry (The Finnish Information Specialists), VTT Technical Research Center of Finland and The National Board of Patents and Registration Finland NBPR.

The main topic of the two-day event will be "From Information to Innovation". The topic is current, as information and its management have a growing significance as accelerators of scientific, technological and commercial development.

Companies and organizations face a huge challenge as the amount of information grows exponentially. To stay in the competition, one must efficiently find integral and reliable material in the fragmented information flood. The capacity to manage and benefit from information is the basis for innovation and success.

A discussion on the topic will be initiated by Finnish and international decision-makers in the sector. Finnish expertise is represented e.g. by Sitra's ombudsman Mikko Kosonen, who will discuss the significance of information usage and strategic agility in today's fast-changing world. VTT's President and CEO Erkki KM Leppavuori on the other hand will contemplate the role of information from the viewpoint of multitechnological research center and its customers.

Senior Vice President, Global Technology at KONE Corporation Jussi Oijala will take the stand and concentrate on the challenges and opportunities brought along by opening up of the innovation process towards partners and suppliers as well as towards customers and end-users.

Among the top names from the international sector are Seed Media Group's CEO and founder Adam Bly, who will give a talk about the open science coming real and Elsevier's Jay Katzen, who is the Managing director of academic and government products for the Science and technology division. He will speak about the accelerating scientific discovery through openness and collaboration.
