From the Towers of Bay Street to the Rugby Pitch

Bankers, Lawyers and Brokers Trade Their Suits and Ties for Rugby Jerseys and Cleats

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 7, 2010) - Proving that they are just as adept on the rugby pitch as they are in the boardrooms, court rooms and trading floors of downtown Toronto, Bay Street Rugby Football Club are the 2010 Toronto Rugby Union ("TRU") C Division Champions.

Bay Street RFC successfully clinched the championship in a hard fought match against a very worthy opponent in the Toronto Buccaneers RFC, with the club coming out with a 32 -22 victory. Team Captain Peter Shippen proudly received the championship plaque from TRU Fixtures Executive John Watkins at Fletchers Field Rugby Park on Saturday August 28th, 2010.

"It's been a great season for Bay Street RFC" said Club President Alex Austin after the club, known as the "Pigs", went undefeated through both the 2010 regular season and the round robin play-offs leading up to the championship final.

Bay Street RFC is comprised primarily of professionals working in the financial and legal industries in Toronto who, given their work schedules, aren't able to commit to the more formal structure of other local clubs. Bay Street RFC prides itself in its robust social schedule and in taking an active role in the community, including its role as a title sponsor for this year's successful prostate cancer benefit – 'Pants Off for Prostate Cancer' – in March. Now in their third year, the Pigs continue to grow and are actively seeking new members interested in their special brand of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

"Through a concerted recruiting effort, which included finding several of our young players jobs on Bay Street, we brought together a talented mix of youth, experience and just the right number of ex-pats with accents," said Mr. Austin, adding "despite the club's 'no practice mantra, the lads came ready to play each weekend, even if they were often still shaking off the effects of the previous night."

With a full schedule of post-season tours and alumni games slated for the fall, Bay Street RFC has not hung up their trademark green-and-pink jerseys for the year just yet. As always, the Pigs will be hosting several social events throughout the Fall and the off-season to complement what has been a terrific year of fun and success on the pitch.
