Frost & Sullivan Award Recognises Twinlinx's Contributions to Customer Value Enhancement in NFC Smart Cards Services Market

LONDON--(Marketwire - March 18, 2011) - The Frost & Sullivan 2011 European Customer Value Enhancement Award in NFC Smart Cards Services is presented to Twinlinx. The company's advanced sticker solution -- MyMax -- offers the perfect answer to the needs of near field communication (NFC). It is an easy to deploy, low cost, independent, multi-application product that effectively meets most existing contactless standards.

Many solutions from the NFC industry developed over the last decade failed to achieve successful commercial deployment. MyMax's ease-of-use and ease-of-installation have been its unique selling points and have increased its value to customers.

Simplicity in use, installation and superior functionality underline its value to customers. To install it, the user just has to stick it on the back of their handset mobile and pair it with the phone. MyMax sticker is able to upgrade mobile phones with NFC functionality without consumers having to change their phones.

"As a real innovation, the sticker has its own battery," adds Fernandez. "An 'on/off' button on the sticker allows the activation (or deactivation) of the internal battery to save power when not used with the phone." Moreover, at the end of 2011, the sticker can be switched on/off by the phone which will allow the user to have the same experience as with an NFC phone.

The sticker can work as a passive sticker (when close to a reader, the sticker works like a contactless card, not needing to draw power from the internal battery). It can also function as a contactless reader connected to the phone (in this mode, the sticker uses its internal battery and can read and write to contactless cards or tags.) Peer-to-peer mode allows the user to exchange information with other NFC enabled devices or handsets. . Finally, the 'internal mode' allows the handset to access the internal secure contactless chip integrated in the sticker.

"MyMax is available with different secure elements such as JavaCard, Micropass (from Inside Secure), Mifare and CD21 (Navigo for transit)," states Fernandez. "The ability to be used with different secure elements is a real value-added proposition to the end user; there is no need to have different cards to access different services and the sticker is immediately compatible with the applications in place."

Additional services can also be designed on top of the MyMax solution. All verticals are covered through this solution. The sticker can be used as a payment solution, as transit proof, as an access key, but also for healthcare and retail applications. The secure element is a security-proof option for all secured applications.

"The ability to stick MyMax directly onto a personal mobile is a real value enhancement for the end user, obviating the need to have a new electronic device to access numerous new services," remarks Fernandez. "As the sticker can be switched on and off, it conserves battery life."

Most of the time, users have to carry a contactless card per application or a multi-application contactless card, but this means carrying multiple cards. With this solution, users only have to carry their mobile phone to access various different services. The interaction with the mobile (dedicated application, personalized services and messages) is a real value addition.
