"Long-term evolution (LTE) is poised to be the next-generation technology to drive the telecommunication industry," says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Mariano Kimbara. "Network operators are ready to implement LTE and deploy it over high speed packet access HSPA or 3G technologies."

LTE is slated to become one of the major cellular communication technologies in the foreseeable future. Network operators have very aggressive deployment timelines for LTE. The need for higher bandwidth speed for wireless is driving adoption of LTE.

As a general trend, customers are increasingly using their PC as part of their measurement setup. They control the measurement setup through a PC or use the PC as part of the measurement equipment.

Though the prospects for the market are bright, some aspects are slowing its momentum. The general purpose test equipment market is a developed and mature market. Hence, there is a lack of opportunities for innovation. Innovation in this industry is limited to increase in frequency coverage of test equipment and accuracy in measurement.

Technical demand spurs the T&M equipment markets; thus, a slow rate of innovation would result in slower growth for the market.
