Fujitsu and ONStor Form Strategic Partnership to Deliver Scalable, Energy-Efficient, High-Performance Network Attached Storage

Combination of ETERNUS Storage and ONStor Bobcat NAS Gateway Delivers a Storage Consolidation Platform to Mid-Sized to Large Enterprises That Simplifies Management and Protection of Unstructured Data

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - May 13, 2008) - Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation today announced it is partnering with ONStor, Inc., a leading provider of scalable clustered NAS storage solutions for the enterprise, to deliver a highly scalable storage platform that will allow mid-sized to large enterprises to consolidate existing storage islands and simplify the management and protection of unstructured data. The combination of Fujitsu ETERNUS® storage systems and the ONStor Bobcat™ NAS Gateway creates a highly reliable solution that employs innovative technology to ensure greater throughput, capacity and energy efficiency. As part of the agreement, Fujitsu will resell the ONStor Bobcat NAS Gateway models 2240, 2260 and 2280 with its ETERNUS4000 and ETERNUS8000 storage systems.

"Almost every area of the enterprise is experiencing rapid growth of unstructured data. Administrators are looking for more centralized solutions that will address this growth while improving overall data access and data protection," said Brad Nisbet, research manager for storage systems at IDC. "Solutions such as the one delivered by the combination of Fujitsu and ONStor create a reliable, cost-effective and high-performance solution that will facilitate a consolidation strategy designed to protect the company, add important levels of control over data, and help scattered data administrators sleep at night."

"Many of our customers struggle daily to balance their desperate need to leverage their data more effectively against the cost of doing so," said Adam Binder, CEO at Arcscale, a Santa Clara-based systems integrator, technology advisor and collocation provider. "As the West Region top seller of both Fujitsu and ONStor solutions, we're extremely excited that the two companies have teamed up to offer a cost-effective solution that we can confidently take to our most demanding customers, who require reliability, availability and maximum control over their assets."

A Compelling Combination

Reliability & Availability

The ONStor Bobcat system's modular architecture and high-availability clustering eliminate any single point of failure. ETERNUS storage systems include redundant controllers, power supply units, fans, and batteries as well as RAID technology to ensure long-term data protection. Both systems also feature snapshots, mirroring and replication.

Compact, Eco-Friendly, Energy-Efficient Design for Reduced Energy Costs

The ONStor Bobcat NAS Gateway uses a breakthrough multi-core network processor that maximizes data throughput with low latencies while offering very low power consumption and heat dissipation. ETERNUS storage systems feature an ECO-mode with MAID (Massive Arrays of Idle Disks) technology, which stops spindle rotation at scheduled times, reducing power consumption.

Independent Scaling of Performance and Capacity

Bobcat's modular clustered architecture makes it possible to increase performance or add capacity independently, allowing companies to start with an affordable entry-level configuration and then scale seamlessly as requirements grow. ONStor EverON StorFS™ file system supports an auto-grow feature that delivers dynamic capacity expansion with no downtime. The ETERNUS4000 has a maximum storage capacity of 315 terabytes. The ETERNUS8000 has a maximum storage capacity of 2.07 petabytes.

Flexibility and Agility

Bobcat's virtual server capability eliminates the problem of having one server overloaded while a nearby server sits idle. A virtual server is a logical file serving entity -- with its own name and IP address -- that can be transparently moved among NAS gateways in the cluster. Resources can be redistributed on the fly. ETERNUS storage system components are hot-swappable, and customers can choose the right price and performance options for their needs: high-performance fibre channel (FC) drives, Nearline SATA drives, and MAID groups.

"The speed of technology development often forces companies to choose between innovation and reliability," said Dave Egan, senior vice president, storage at Fujitsu. "This is not the case with Fujitsu and ONStor. With our track records for transforming innovation into highly reliable, high-performance solutions, we are making it easier and less costly for mid-sized to large enterprises to create the storage infrastructure they need to protect their vital information assets for the long term."

"A storage platform is all about reliability, capacity, flexibility, and cost," said Tom Gallivan, senior vice president, worldwide sales at ONStor. "Together, Fujitsu and ONStor offer an extremely agile, high-capacity solution that delivers the highest reliability for the lowest total cost of ownership. In addition, our two companies are very focused on delivering energy-efficient solutions, helping our customers create a more environmentally friendly data center and cut operational expenses."
