Fujitsu PRIMERGY Servers Powered by Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processors Set Industry Performance Standard

Systems Achieve Dramatic Improvements in Performance and Address Power and Cooling Challenges

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 5, 2006 -- Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation today announced five new PRIMERGY® two socket servers that offer Fujitsu customers even more choices for highly reliable servers: tower models TX200 S3 and TX300 S3, rack-based models RX200 S3 and RX300 S3, and a blade server BX620 S3. All servers feature the latest Intel® Quad-Core Xeon® processors E5310 and E5320, which deliver almost double the performance per watt over the latest generation of Intel® dual-core processors.

The embedded virtualization technology of the Intel® Xeon® processors delivers optimized support of virtual machines operating environments such as VMware and Xen. PRIMERGY Servers combine this technology with excellent performance and reliability, making these dual socket servers ideal platforms for data center consolidation. PRIMERGY dual socket servers have four cores per socket for a total of 8 cores, 8 MB second level cache (2x 4 MB), and support for front side bus speeds of as much as 1333 MHz. As evidence of the benefits of this new processor, a new Intel® Quad-Core Xeon®-based Fujitsu PRIMERGY server recently set a record-breaking web server performance benchmark with a SPECweb2005(1) score of 18160(2), an impressive 180% increase over previous equivalent PRIMERGY platforms(3).

The new Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® E5300 series processors have enabled Fujitsu to raise the bar for performance per watt in PRIMERGY tower, rack, and blade servers with only 80 watts of power consumption per processor socket. With the excellent performance per watt, users get more computing power from fewer servers, and reduce heat and power consumption in the data center, resulting in direct cost savings.

"Fujitsu's new PRIMERGY systems with Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processors represent the next step in our strategy aimed at providing power efficient data center performance," said Richard McCormack, senior vice president of Fujitsu Computer Systems. "With availability in tower, rack, and blade form factors, our PRIMERGY offering lets our customers choose the right solution for their specific need."

Pricing and Availability

The new S3 generation of PRIMERGY servers will be available in December 2006 with pricing starting under $2,300.
