Launches Yeast Subsidiary-Phyterra Yeast, Inc.

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 9, 2008) - Functional Technologies Corp. (TSX VENTURE:FEB) is pleased to announce the launch of its wholly owned subsidiary, Phyterra Yeast, Inc., at the 2008 Home Winemaking and Brewing Trade Association (HWBTA) Annual Conference in Baltimore, MD. Phyterra Yeast, Inc., formerly known as First Venture Yeast Products, will be responsible for Functional Technologies' proprietary yeast business, including product development, manufacturing, and commercialization. Functional Technologies will be launching its proprietary branded Phyterra Yeast products to the home wine and commercial winery markets in the near future.

The HWBTA Conference runs from June 6 to 9 and is attended by North America's leading retail home brewing and home winemaking supply stores, as well as related distributors and manufacturers.

"We are very pleased to be introducing Phyterra Yeast, Inc. at the widely attended HWBTA conference in Baltimore," commented Howard Louie, CEO of Functional Technologies. "As we near the commercialization phase of our proprietary yeast products we felt it was important to have a strong corporate brand that reflects our commitment to health and disease prevention. Going forward, all our developmental and commercial yeast products will be branded with the Phyterra Yeast name, with the intent of making the name recognizable as the leading yeast brand focused on health and disease prevention while still preserving natural food manufacturing processes."

"Our attendance at HWBTA is an important first step to raise brand awareness for Phyterra Yeast in advance of our commercial launch in the coming months," added Garth Greenham, COO of Functional Technologies. "The home wine market will be an initial target for our urea-degrading yeasts. We feel this market will be especially receptive to our premium positioned products, helping us establish the Phyterra Yeast brand and raise consumer awareness of the health benefits of our yeast technology and the important contaminant problem it can mitigate."
