Funding Available for Clean Technology Projects: SDTC Calls for Statements of Interest for its Sixteenth Round of Funding

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 2, 2009) - Clean technology developers from across Canada are invited to submit Statements of Interest to the $550-million SD Tech Fund™, as Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) opens its sixteenth funding round.

"Despite the current economic challenges, we are on the cusp of a global cleantech revolution which is driving the retooling of all industry sectors to cleaner modes of production and operation," said SDTC President and CEO Vicky Sharpe. "Investing in clean technologies is now being recognized worldwide as a means to revitalize both the economy and the environment. The time has never been better for Canadian cleantech developers and SDTC is pleased to help them seize this opportunity."

SDTC is a not-for-profit corporation created by the Government of Canada to finance and support the late-stage development and pre-commercial demonstration of clean technologies. SDTC helps companies through the critical juncture when capital and scaling costs become formidable challenges and the risk profile deters many other investors.

To date, SDTC has allocated $ 376 million to 154 clean technology projects. An additional $905M million has been leveraged from project consortia members, for a total portfolio value of $1.3 billion.

"SDTC's funding and due diligence process helps clean technology developers strengthen their entrepreneurial skills and refine their value proposition to other investors, industrial partners and customers," said Sharpe. "In addition, the pre-market validation that SDTC has brought to its portfolio companies has already facilitated over $900M of follow-on investment from the Venture Capital community and Project Finance players."

While applications for nearer-to-market technology innovations that deliver clean air and GHG reductions are encouraged, SDTC is also particularly interested in clean water and clean soil technology solutions.

SDTC has released a series of SD Business Case™ reports which identify additional priority investment areas. These reports are available in the Knowledge Centre section of the SDTC website at

SDTC is accepting applications until October 21, 2009. Potential applicants are requested to first review the application process and funding requirements at and then schedule an initial call with an Applications Manager by emailing

SDTC holds two rounds of funding each year. The next call for SOIs will open February 24, 2010.
