Funding From Government of Canada to Promote Pointe-aux-Outardes Nature Park

POINTE-AUX-OUTARDES, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 30, 2012) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that the corporation Parc Nature de Pointe-aux-Outardes has been granted financial assistance for a project to help bolster the nature park's tourism drawing power.

"As our support of this Parc Nature de Pointe-aux-Outardes project clearly shows, the Government of Canada encourages initiatives that further the economic diversification of Quebec's regions, in this case through tourism and international cruise development," says Minister Lebel.

Parc Nature de Pointe-aux-Outardes, a major interpretation centre in the Côte-Nord region, is the only biodiversity nature reserve of its kind in Canada. The park is also a key attraction for cruise passengers stopping at the Baie-Comeau port of call. In order to position the site advantageously and attract a greater number of visitors, the corporation intends to hire an expert consultant for the development of a detailed plan to promote the nature park's assets. This exercise will enable the corporation to better answer the needs and requirements of the international cruise industry and other tourists from outside the province, develop new products and services and pursue its growth.

Information:

This $29,250 in non-repayable funding has been granted through the Support Initiative for International Cruise Development provided for under Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program.
