Fundraiser to Crown Boston's Best Amateur Corporate Comedian

Local Companies Vie for Top Comedian During Stand-Up Boston Comedy Challenge to Benefit Boston Non-Profit Organization Community Call

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Sep 24, 2014) - Community Call today announced the Stand-Up Boston Comedy Challenge, the first of its kind event that invites local companies to enter their employees into a competition for Boston's funniest, amateur corporate stand-up comedian. All proceeds will benefit Community Call, an organization that utilizes community event planning as a teaching method for opportunity and at-risk Boston public high school students. Honorary Chairperson for the event is Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh. The aspiring comedians will take the stage at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer Street, in Boston's Seaport District on Tuesday, October 21st as part of the evening's activities running from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

One employee comedian from companies around Greater Boston including Pegasystems, Facebook, TripAdvisor, HubSpot and Google will be competing for funniest stand-up comedian. Each amateur comedian will receive professional coaching before taking the stage in front of co-workers, celebrity judges, and guests for five minutes in an effort to make them laugh. Boston professional comedians including Steve Macone, Will Noonan, and Dave Rattigan will be preparing the amateurs for their Stand-Up Boston comic debut.

Celebrity judges will select the evening's funniest comedian based on material and delivery. Judges include: Felix Arroyo (Boston Chief of Health and Human Services); Chase Garbarino (founder and CEO of BostInno); Scott Kirsner (Innovation columnist for the Boston Globe); and John Tobin (comedy producer and owner, Theater District Productions).

The event will include a networking reception before the entertainment takes the stage. The evening will culminate with the presentation of the Community Call 2014 Young Leader Award presented by Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim and Pegasystems Founder and CEO Alan Trefler. This annual award is presented to an outstanding young leader in Greater Boston nominated by members of the community and chosen by a peer group of students and young leaders from the Mayor's Youth Council and Community Call students. More information and tickets are available at the Community Call website at www.communitycall.org.

"Our event sponsor, Pegasystems, and others in the technology and business community have really stepped up for Stand-Up Boston," said Carolyn Edwards, Executive Director of Community Call and the Stand-Up Boston organizer. "All proceeds from this fun and engaging evening will provide programming funds for our student-produced Boston community events on issues important to Boston youth ranging from themes of gang violence prevention to youth homelessness."

"We are delighted to be sponsoring the Stand-Up Boston Comedy Challenge, and more importantly, Community Call and the great work they do in assisting Boston youth," said Alan Trefler, Founder and CEO of Pegasystems. About Community Call:

Community Call's (www.communitycall.org) mission is to develop critical thinking, confidence, and self-empowerment with Boston area at-risk and opportunity high school students through community event planning. Our students are inspired to look beyond themselves and collaborate with their peers to identify a social need, develop a plan, and produce an event that benefits the broader community. Students learn organizational, business, and life skills influencing all aspects of their lives.

Our enrichment program produces a variety of entirely student-run community events providing unparalleled opportunities to learn first-hand about business and leadership and giving back to the community. By using their passion, talents, and skills, these students are more likely to believe that they can make a difference in their community while making a difference in their own lives.
