Future Facilities to Present at Data Center Dynamics on How Computational Fluid Dynamics Can Create an Efficient Data Center

A Case Study From Dell Computer Will Illustrate How a Simulation-Based Approach Allows Data Center Managers to Predict the Impact of Infrastructure Modifications Before They Are Made

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - July 14, 2010) -  Future Facilities Limited, the leading provider of data center infrastructure simulation software, today announced that its North America General Manager will present a case study showing the operational and energy-efficiency benefits of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) at the upcoming Data Center Dynamics show at the Hilton San Francisco on July 16th.

Sherman Ikemoto, Future Facilities' North America General Manager, will provide attendees with a case study based on a Dell Computer facility. The case study will show attendees how CFD can enable data center and IT managers to predict the impact of operational changes, IT upgrades and maintenance scenarios before taking action in the data center.

By using a simulation-based approach, data center operators can predict the impact of proposed operational changes on factors like power usage efficiency (PUE) and IT equipment inlet temperatures.

Using its flagship simulation software, 6SigmaDC, Future Facilities worked with Dell Computers' data center team to develop a detailed CFD model of a Dell data center. The resulting CFD model was calibrated to match closely actual environmental conditions. After calibration, the model was used to identify root causes of cooling inefficiencies and develop a solution that increased the system effectiveness.

The case study presentation will highlight the following:

  • The fundamental physical effects of the containment system on data center cooling system performance
  • The process of CFD modeling and model calibration
  • The process of using CFD models to predict, visualize and develop solutions for cooling system and airflow management issues

The case study will be presented in Hall 4 at 2:50 PM. In addition to presenting the case study, Future Facilities will be providing a live demo of 6SigmaDC throughout the show in the exhibition hall.
