Montgomery County's first lakeside event space opened with fanfare during a celebration at the Gaithersburg hotel on May 22, 2013 attended by more than 200 of the region's leading event planners and representatives of the hotel's owner, Host Hotels & Resorts, and manager, Marriott International. Named the Lakeside Ballroom to highlight its location overlooking the charming lake that anchors the popular RIO Washingtonian Center shopping, dining and entertainment complex, the new, dynamic Gaithersburg event and meeting venue features 3,372 sq. ft. of flexible indoor space and a 2,000 sq.-ft. outdoor terrace.

Inspired by the blue water and lush greenery that surround Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Center, designONE studio of Atlanta, Ga., created a sophisticated venue featuring natural elements for weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, client receptions and business meetings. Floor-to-ceiling windows accent the ballroom's walnut panels and rich palette of rust, amber and chocolate. Leaves swirl through the design of the floor covering. The petals of translucent chandeliers float across a coffered ceiling. Light-reflecting acrylic wall panels ripple like water.
Construction on the Lakeside Ballroom began in November 2012 as part of a major renovation that included a new Marriott Hotels & Resorts Greatroom and The Bench restaurant, bar and patio. Each element melds work and play with style to accommodate the modern lifestyle.
