MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA and NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 25, 2007 -- Myspace, YouTube, Facebook, blogs, podcasts and mash ups are all shining examples of the consumer as content creator. This formula has afforded these communities and platforms unprecedented growth. In short, all have embraced consumers and placed them at the top of the entertainment food chain. The game industry has been experiencing the very same trend through the modification of video game content by amateur developers. The resulting products are known to gamers as mods.

On January 25, 2007, the Mod DB (http://awards.moddb.com) will unveil the winners of the 5th Annual Mod of the Year Awards. "Visitors have enjoyed a greatly enhanced program this year with even more free downloads, interactive features, video showcases, prizes, visionary sponsors and a winning formula that remains constant... the outcome will be decided by the gamers through online voting," stated Kevin Carney, CEO, Game Marketing Solutions, which manages the promotional efforts for the awards program. ABOUT MODS

A game modification (mod) is a variation of a game or in-game elements. Mods can add new content to the underlying game (partial conversions) or offer an entirely new game (total conversions). Mods serve as an opportunity for developers to creatively express themselves and share their efforts with gamers. Mod DB allows us all to play something different.
