GameStop Sets in-store Donation Record by Raising $1.2 Million for Make-A-Wish® During the Month of May

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - June 04, 2015) - Throughout the month of May, GameStop and its family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, called upon its customers to help raise money and awareness for Make-A-Wish through an in-store and online fundraising campaign. More than $1.2 million was collected to help grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

During its second year, GameStop expanded the campaign to include GameStop's family of retail brands. The success of this year's campaign is a direct result of support from the community of loyal GameStop, Game Informer, Kongregate, Spring Mobile, Simply Mac, customers and employees.

This year, GameStop employees and customers were motivated by more than just the idea of making wishes come true. Twelve-year-old Jahred wished to be in a commercial for a video game company, and his favorite store, GameStop, leapt into action. Jahred's video was featured in-store nationwide throughout the campaign. Jahred furthered his superstar status by creating a video thanking GameStop for making his wish come true. His video can be found here.

"Our customers are simply amazing. Because of their generosity, GameStop collected more than $1.2 million during the month of May -- setting a new record for in-store donations," said Rob Lloyd, chief financial officer, GameStop and Make-A-Wish North Texas board member. "Thank you to all of our customers who donated online or in our stores. Your support allows Make-A-Wish to help grant even more wishes this year!"

GameStop has been a proud supporter of Make-A-Wish since 2007. Currently an average of one wish kid per day specifically requests to shop at GameStop as part of their wish, and more than 1,600 wish kids have benefited from GameStop's generosity through gift cards they provide to enhance these shopping spree and electronics wishes.

"In order to achieve our vision of granting every eligible child's wish, we rely on corporate sponsors, like GameStop, who are truly engaged with the Make-A-Wish mission," said David Williams, president and chief executive officer of Make-A-Wish America. "It is clear by the overwhelming success of this year's campaign, that the GameStop employees and customers are truly invested in helping make wishes come true."
