Garda Calls for New Model of Public/Private Partnership Between Law Enforcement and Private Security Companies

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA--(Marketwire - June 11, 2010) -  Garda World Security Corporation (TSX:GW) (Garda), one of the most trusted Physical Security, Cash Logistics and Global Risk Consulting firms in the world, during its Annual Shareholders' Meeting in Montreal today, called for the creation of a new model for public/private partnerships between municipal governments and the private security industry.

"Today's private security industry is a highly professional, well-trained and motivated workforce that can play a vital role in assisting law enforcement organizations and local governments to serve and protect the general public and enhance the quality of life for all our citizens," Garda President and CEO Stephan Cretier told attendees gathered at the St. James Club.

"Our industry can play a much greater role in providing essential services to provincial and local governments," he said. "Since 9/11 the private security industry has undergone a transformation from an underdeveloped industry into a well-trained, well-managed and highly regulated profession.

Today, Mr. Cretier told the audience, Garda professionals are responsible for diplomatic security in foreign embassies. The company protects the travelling public with pre-board screening operations at 26 airports throughout Canada, including the four largest. Garda supplies highly specialized security services at hospitals and health facilities, youth detention and immigration centers and a broad range of commercial and industrial facilities.

"At a time when government is struggling to maintain services, effective utilization of private security firms can reduce costs and free higher paid law enforcement professionals to focus on urgent priorities," Mr. Cretier suggested. "In an environment where major crime resolution is becoming increasingly important, it is crucial that law enforcement is totally engaged on its mission to protect the public. It makes no sense for a police officer making $35 per hour plus generous benefits and pension plan to perform security work better done at $14 per hour by a well trained and licensed security officer."

Mr. Cretier encouraged government officials to consider assigning many basic public safety tasks such as special event security, alarm response and parking regulations enforcement to the private security industry thus enabling police to better focus on urgent crime prevention and investigations.

"The Province of Quebec has more than 25,000 well-trained security officers who are highly regulated by the government," Mr. Cretier concluded. "Working together with government officials and law enforcement agencies, we can keep our citizens and property secure."
