GardaWorld Names Major General Andrew Farquhar as Managing Director for United Kingdom Operations

Will Play Key Strategic Role with Major Clients in Government and Industry


MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA--(Marketwire - Nov. 21, 2011) - GardaWorld, the Global Risk Consulting Group and subsidiary of Garda World Security Corporation (TSX:GW), announced today that it has appointed former British Army Major General Andrew Farquhar, as Managing Director of its United Kingdom operations based in London.

Major General Andrew Farquhar, 58, began his military service in 1975 when he joined the Green Howards infantry regiment and, during a 32-year career in the Army, he has commanded on operations at every level, from rifle platoon in Northern Ireland in 1975, to multi-national corps in Iraq in 2005. He has worked virtually wherever the British Army has been sent and also at the Head Offices of the Ministry of Defence and Headquarters Land Command. Most recently Major General Farquhar was the Managing Partner for the Millbrook Partnership, a consultancy firm that advises clients on intelligence, strategy and communication. He was also engaged as a crisis negotiator working with the insurance industry and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

He has served with UK Special Forces specialising in counter terrorism and surveillance. In the Balkans he led the first successful operation to uncover a mafia style gang involved in a major protection racket, also arresting the Head of the Bosnian Serb Army for a serious breach of the governing treaty. In 2004 in Iraq, he was part of the team which attempted to negotiate the peaceful return of Fallujah into the hands of the Iraqi Security Forces.

Major General Farquhar has been a Non-Executive Director for a recruitment company in Birmingham and has advised a variety of UK and international firms. He is a frequent lecturer at a variety of colleges and to industry, with his particular area of expertise being crisis management, strategic risk, leadership and negotiation.

He was appointed a Member of the Most Honourable Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1981 and promoted to Commander (CBE) in 2003. He was awarded a Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service (QCVS) in 1995 for his service on operations. He was appointed to the Officer Grade of the United States of America Legion of Merit in 2005 for his work in Iraq. He holds eight other medals or decorations.

A graduate of Sheffield University, the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the Army Staff College and an alumnus of the Manchester Business School, Major General Farquhar (CBE DL B.Eng FCMI) is also a Deputy Lieutenant for Staffordshire.
