Gardein, an award-winning line of meat-free foods, is on a mission to positively influence Americans' eating habits one meal at a time. Since embarking on a four-city tour in July, Gardein has been hosting "Gardein Parties" in local neighborhoods to encourage people to go meatless one day a week by offering delicious and nutritious free samples from Gardein's meat-free frozen food line.

For people that sign up for the challenge and pledge to go meatless one day a week, Gardein will donate up to 10,000 meals to non-profits in DC, Boston, Chicago and Atlanta. Gardein also will host a free "Gardein Party" serving meatless entrées in the US city with the most residents that sign-up for the Gardein Meat-Free Summer Challenge.

"We want everyone to be healthy and eat healthy this summer and beyond," says Yves Potvin, founder of Gardein. "We also believe it is our responsibility to feed people most in need by making tasty and healthy meat-free food donations to deserving charities. You can help by taking our pledge to skip meat one day a week and fill a portion of your plate with plant-based protein instead of animal-protein. Who knows your city could be named the Most Meatless City in America by Gardein and be host to a free barbecue later this summer."

Ginny Nickles, director of development at the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children, says, "The Atlanta Day Shelter is proud to be involved with Gardein's Meat-Free Summer Challenge—the nutritional health of our homeless guests is a top priority for us. We are blessed to partner with Gardein as they provide our community with these meals and vital nutritional education that we know will make an amazing impact."

Other beneficiaries of Gardein's Meat-Free Summer Challenge include: Capital Area Food Bank, www.capitalareafoodbank.org and Martha's Table, www.marthastable.org, in DC; Pine Street Inn, www.pinestreetinn.org in Boston; and Lakeview Pantry www.lakeviewpantry.org in Chicago.

"Pine Street Inn applauds Gardein's efforts to educate our communities about the benefits of meatless meals through an engaging concept and delicious food, offering alternatives for a healthy life," says Susan Miskell, business operations manager at Pine Street Inn. "We are grateful for Gardein's generous donation of nutritious meals for homeless men and women in Boston."

Shamia Holloway, communications manager at Capital Area Food Bank, adds, "Gardein's donation comes at a critical time when children are on summer vacation and do not have access to school meals. Through Gardein's generosity, the Capital Area Food Bank will be able to ensure that children sit down to three nutritious meals daily."
