Gartner Places Coraid in Visionaries Quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for General-Purpose Disk Arrays

Evaluation Based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute

REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 26, 2013) - Coraid, a leading provider of software-defined storage solutions, today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the "Visionaries" quadrant of the "Magic Quadrant for General-Purpose Disk Arrays." Gartner evaluates storage systems based on "completeness of vision" and "ability to execute." According to the report, "general-purpose disk storage systems are designed to address shared storage requirements within a single system that can support multiple virtual or physical servers, hosted virtual desktops infrastructures, multiple databases and applications."

In previous "Magic Quadrants," Gartner segmented the storage market by architecture, protocol support and price bands to facilitate a better understanding of storage market dynamics and assist clients in designing infrastructure refreshes. This year's "Magic Quadrant" combined the mid-range and high-end storage systems to better reflect shifts in the market and align with user buying behaviors. The quadrant placed companies into four differentiated vcategories, "Visionaries," "Challengers," "Leaders," and "Niche Players."

According to the 2013 General-Purpose Disk Arrays "Magic Quadrant," "Gartner expects the advantages of the traditional high-end enterprise storage arrays to disappear within the next three to five years because the pace of innovation is occurring faster in the larger and more dynamic mid-range segment of the storage market."

In contrast to legacy storage vendors, Coraid offers a full range of block, file and storage management and automation products that deliver breakthrough elasticity and simplicity at scale using a new generation of Ethernet-based storage networking. Coraid EtherDrive® storage arrays feature a scale-out architecture that uses commodity hardware and a distributed operating system to pool storage resources into a single logical system. Using Coraid EtherCloud™, an advanced management and automation platform, administrators can provision storage with a single click and program storage management workflows using a powerful REST API.

"We believe our position in the Visionaries Quadrant is strong affirmation of Coraid's storage solutions and our view that legacy storage systems are struggling to keep up with the demands of rapid data growth and cloud environments," said Kevin Brown, CEO of Coraid. "Coraid provides a powerful alternative for building enterprise-class storage in public and private cloud environments, with a software-defined storage platform that enables automation and programmability. Rapidly-changing data center architectures are disrupting the legacy storage market, and customers are responding very positively to our vision of combining cloud architecture with enterprise performance and features."

Coraid was named in the Visionaries quadrant of the report. The report was published on March 21, 2013 by Stanley Zaffos, Roger W. Cox and Valdis Filks.
