GE Security's Entry Scan Explosive Trace Detection Portals Help Better Protect Passengers at Warsaw's Frederic Chopin Airport

Seventeen-Unit EntryScan Installation Marks the Largest Explosive Detection Portal Deployment of Its Kind in Europe

NEWARK, CA--(Marketwire - September 20, 2007) - GE Homeland Protection Inc., a business of GE Security, Inc., a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of the General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), today announced the deployment and activation of 17 EntryScan walk-through explosive trace detection portals for passenger screening at Poland's Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport.

The installation of GE Security's EntryScan in Warsaw is the largest application of explosive trace detection portals for aviation security in Europe. The deployment serves as a model for the use of more and better advanced technologies to help better protect air travelers in the region.

"GE Security is committed to developing technologies that help travelers enjoy greater peace of mind when flying," said Dennis Cooke, president, GE Security's Homeland Protection business. "We are introducing new passenger-friendly equipment such as the EntryScan around the world to help make travel more convenient and more secure and this major deployment does both for travelers using Warsaw's Frederic Chopin Airport."

"We are pleased to be setting a new standard for aviation security in Europe with this first large scale deployment of advanced technology at our Frederic Chopin Airport," said Marek Dilling, security specialist and project manager at "Polish Airports" State Enterprise, the organization that operates the Warsaw Airport. "Thanks to the GE Security EntryScan, passengers departing from Warsaw are now realizing the benefits of technology at the checkpoint -- security, comfort and greater peace of mind."

The EntryScan, which is popularly known as the "puffer," has already been deployed to dozens of high-risk facilities worldwide to help detect explosives and is a key component of the total checkpoint security solution. The EntryScan scans for traces of explosives and alerts security screeners to potential threats. Passengers stand in the detection portal for a few seconds while it releases several "puffs" of air that dislodge particles clinging to exposed skin and clothes. The EntryScan then captures and analyzes the resulting air sample for traces of explosives. A computerized voice prompts the passenger, in the native Polish language, to exit when screening is complete.

GE Security's EntryScan is the most popular trace detection portal in the world. In addition to deployments at airports, the EntryScan is currently being used for security at other high-risk facilities including nuclear and conventional power plants, government and military facilities, courthouses and national monuments.

The deployment of the EntryScan in Poland is another step toward GE Security's vision of enhancing aviation security around the globe. GE Security's EntryScan trace portals are currently installed at passenger security checkpoints at nearly 40 airports across the United States. This installation at Poland's Warsaw Frederic Chopin airport marks the third such EntryScan deployment in Poland, with Krakow and Szymany airports also using similar portals from GE.
