Gemcom Executive Appointed Adjunct Professor by the University of British Columbia's Mining Engineering Department

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 28, 2005) - Dr. Tony Diering, Vice President of Advanced Technologies with Gemcom (TSX:GCM) has been appointed Adjunct Professor by the University of British Columbia's Mining Engineering Department, recognised as one of the top schools in North America.

"At Gemcom, we employ some of the most talented professionals in the field to help us build and support technology solutions for the mining industry," said Rick Moignard, President and CEO.

"We encourage our employees to give back to the industry by supporting education and research outside of Gemcom," continued Moignard. "We are delighted that Dr. Diering's expertise has been acknowledged by a faculty that has built a reputation on researching the impact mining has on economies, communities and the environment."

Dr. Diering has 25 years of experience in developing mining software and has pioneered the innovative, block-caving technology. The wide-range of projects he has worked on consist of feasibility studies, detailed mine design and pre-production scheduling. His academic credentials include a BSc (Honours) in Applied Mathematics, a BSc (Honours) in Geophysics, a MSc in Mining Engineering, and a PhD in Mining Engineering (Rock Mechanics).

"Dr. Diering has co-supervised our Masters and PhD programs in the block-caving field for several years," said Dr. Malcolm Scoble, Department Head, UBC Mining and Engineering. "We value his contributions and we are pleased he is joining our department."

UBC grants adjunct faculty appointments to individuals who have special professional skills of value to the University, but who are working full-time in their field. As Adjunct Professor, Dr. Diering will become more involved with the Masters and PhD programs as well as providing occasional lectures to the faculty and students.
