Gemcom Signs Agreement With the University of Sao Paulo to Establish Centre of Mining Research Excellence

Key Research Activities to Focus on Mine Production Management Solutions for the Mining Value Chain

SAO PAULO, BRASIL and VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - April 24, 2007) - Gemcom Software International Inc. (TSX:GCM), the largest global supplier of specialised mining productivity solutions, and Laboratory of Mine Planning Technology (LAPOL), from the Department of Mining and Petroleum Engineering of University of Sao Paulo (USP), announced today the signing of a technical cooperation agreement, to establish LAPOL as a Centre of Mining Research Excellence of Gemcom technology in Brasil.

"Mining companies in Brasil and elsewhere are increasing their awareness toward the benefits of a fully integrated IT technology solution for the whole mine value chain. Historically, the biggest hurdle faced by the mining industry has been the multitude of legacy systems in use and the islands of information that have prevented previous attempts to properly implement integrated mine value chain solutions," stated Beck Nader, associate researcher of LAPOL-USP. "By combining Gemcom's state-of-the-art technology with LAPOL's industry-driven research experience, we believe we can add substantial value to the entire mining business. This will provide the industry with a strong value proposition for the technological potential of an integrated IT application throughout the mine production chain."

As fundamental technology building blocks, Gemcom is providing LAPOL with multi-user licenses of its mining productivity solutions, including GEMS SQL, Surpac and MineSched. These solutions will be used for training and education of both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as software tools to support research projects focused in the development and integration of specific components of Mine Production Management Solutions (MPMS). Examples of current research efforts underway include Reserves Reconciliation, Mine-oriented Short Term Mine Planning linked with Fleet Management, as well as Virtual Mine Immersive Applications, all of which will be supported by Gemcom's technology and international expertise.

"Working with LAPOL and making our leading-edge technology available to the University of Sao Paulo demonstrates Gemcom's proactive effort towards combining high level engineering research with the industry needs," says Marcos Rittner, vice president, and general manager of Gemcom do Brasil. "We are convinced that the Gemcom-LAPOL partnership will bring noticeable benefits in the very short term to the entire mining community in Brasil, including mining companies, professionals and researchers. We want to be at the forefront of mining innovation in Brasil much the same way we are positioned elsewhere in the world."

"Partnering with leading universities and research institutes around the world, such as LAPOL-USP, is aligned with Gemcom's research and development policies, that are aimed at ultimately benefiting the mining industry as a whole," stated Ram Sudama, chief technology officer of Gemcom.
