Gemio Now Accepting Pre-Orders for High-Tech Friendship Bracelet

Beautiful, Smart Jewelry for the Connected Generation

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - Nov 30, 2015) - Gemio, makers of high-tech friendship bracelets, today announced the launch of pre-orders on its website. Gemio is the first wearable designed for self-expression and connecting with friends in person.

Friendship bracelets are the oldest "wearable" in history. Although they are reinvented with every generation, they are still based on 13th century technology. "We felt it was time to update the timeless tradition of friendship bracelets by using technology to add new layers of meaning and connection while still preserving its personal and symbolic value," said Michael Bettua, CEO and co-founder of Gemio.

Fashion is the new UX. While most wearables have a uniform design, Gemio uses interchangeable Gemsets that can be snapped on and off. Gemsets are backlit by a palette of millions of colors of light and special effects so you can create an entirely new look each and every day. Gemio can go from boho to bling (two of the many collections available) in a fashion minute.

"Light is becoming an integral part of fashion design," said Christy Saito, vice president of product and merchandising of Gemio. "We have created the first wearable to bring it off the runway and onto people's wrists."

Focused on Connecting People. Gemio is the first wearable to focus on connecting people rather than devices. The social bracelet uses technology familiar to existing wearables (Bluetooth, accelerometer, gyrometer, LEDs), but applies the technology in entirely new ways. While most devices use Bluetooth to connect a device to a phone, Gemio employs Bluetooth to create connections between friends. When friends pair their bracelets in-person, Gemio creates a network that recognizes who you're with and responds to what you are doing. Gemio lights up when your friends are nearby, playing a signature "light tone" (a personalized ringtone, but in lights).

A New Kind of Communication. Rather than using tiny LEDs for phone notifications, Gemio is an elegant band of light with 20 RGB LEDs that can be used to communicate between friends in the form of light messages -- like chat, but in lights.

Gesture Triggers. Gemio is the first responsive bracelet in the world of jewelry because it recognizes gestures and allows users to assign light effects to them. Wave hello and Gemio plays a light show or twist your wrist to make it sparkle.

Color and Music Matching. Gemio also utilizes technology not common in the wearables world. Point it at your favorite blue shirt and it changes the backlighting on your Gemset to match. Wear it to a concert or party and it will flash to the beat of the music.

MyGemio App. You can control Gemio's appearance and many of its functions directly from the bracelet, but for even more options you can use the MyGemio App, coming soon to the Apple App Store.

The Real Life Network. The next wave of technology is about integrating the virtual world with the real world. We believe there is nothing more real and nothing more important than the friends you see in real life. Our goal is to celebrate those relationships, and self-expression, style and technology make them ever-more connected.

For a limited time, Gemio is available for pre-order at www.gogemio.com. Bracelets start at $80 and swappable Gemsets start at $20. Product shipment is scheduled for Q2 2016.
