General Moly Connects Nevada Mining Operations With Exalt

Multi-Hop, Multi-Band Exalt Microwave Backhaul Link Provides Fast and Reliable Communications With Remote Mine Data Center

CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - March 8, 2011) - Exalt Communications today announced that General Moly. Inc., which is expected to become the world's largest primary producer of molybdenum (moly) through two mining operations in Nevada, has deployed Exalt microwave backhaul systems to connect its Mount Hope, Nevada mine with its site office in Eureka, Nevada. The Exalt solution provides a crucial multi-hop, multi-band data link that carries information between the two sites as General Moly awaits federal permits to begin mining. Moly is a metal ore with one of the highest melting temperatures of all the elements and when added to steel, increases strength, hardness, toughness, elevated temperature strength, and corrosion resistance.

General Moly and Exalt partner KNS of Denver, Colorado selected Exalt ExtendAir® systems because Exalt has a reputation for high performance and reliability. KNS deployed ExtendAir all-outdoor 5 GHz, 11 GHz, and 23 GHz systems, configured to carry 100 megabits per second (Mbps) of Ethernet traffic, to span 24 miles between the office in Eureka and the server at the mine on Mount Hope. Because all Exalt systems are built on Exalt's universal technology platform, deployment of this multi-hop, multi-band system was rapid and straightforward.

"The Mount Hope facility will be one of the largest and richest moly mines in the world when it goes into production, and we need a high-capacity communications link that will be rock-solid under all conditions," said Donna Peske, manager of IT at General Moly Nevada Mines. "I previously had highly positive experiences with Exalt systems on other mining projects, and I am confident that the Exalt systems are the right choice for General Moly as well."

Exalt ExtendAir systems also provide General Moly with a wide array of features and capabilities previously unavailable at their price point, along with 'pay-as-you-grow' scalability, field-upgradable capacity, guaranteed throughput, and 99.999% availability. Additionally, ExtendAir zero-footprint systems are small, lightweight, and easy to install and maintain.

"Mining operations require a robust backhaul infrastructure, and in this case multi-hop, multi-band, and fiber-quality," said Amir Zoufonoun, president and CEO of Exalt Communications. "General Moly's choice of Exalt further validates our unique value proposition to customers -- that is, to provide systems that support every backhaul application -- and the reason why Exalt is a preferred choice for critical infrastructure networks."

The Exalt Microwave Backhaul Product Portfolio
All Exalt microwave backhaul systems -- indoor, outdoor, and split-mount -- offer guaranteed link availability, guaranteed throughput and low, constant latency. Systems are available in world bands from 2 to 43 GHz and in capacities from 10 Mbps to more than 1000 Mbps per channel, providing a range of options to fit countless network applications. Designed to enable a smooth transition to IP, they offer native support for both TDM and Ethernet, and are fully software configurable and upgradeable. For easy and secure management using third-party network management systems, Exalt systems support SNMP v1, v2c and v3. Data security is provided by available FIPs 197-compliant AES 128-bit and 256-bit encryption that adds zero latency to the transmission. To simplify installation and maintenance, all Exalt systems feature an embedded manual and most include a built-in spectrum analyzer.
