General Motors of Canada Limited: All-New Chevrolet Avalanche Voted Best New Pickup Truck by AJAC

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 21, 2006) - Chevrolet was honoured today by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), which named the Chevrolet Avalanche as the "Best New Pickup Truck".

The recognition results from recent driving evaluations conducted over 3 days by over 60 of Canada's top automotive journalists at the recent AJAC Test Fest evaluation, which is the foundation of the Canadian Car of the Year Awards (CCOTY) program. The CCOTY was created by journalist members of AJAC to provide consumers with sound, comparative information on new vehicles.

"It's rewarding for us to see such an innovative vehicle recognized as a leader in its class," said Arturo Elias, president of GM of Canada. "GM aimed for nothing short of segment leadership with its new generation of full-size SUVs and pickups. Awards, like this one, tell us we're on the right path."

The Avalanche was the first vehicle of its kind, offering both the passenger-comfort attributes of an SUV and the cargo capability of a truck, thanks to its innovative and easy to use midgate feature. The 2007 Avalanche takes that formula to all-new levels offering unmatched functionality and utility with a refined and confident driving experience.

Available in LS, LT and LTZ models, with 2WD and 4WD, all models come with comprehensive safety, comfort and convenience features as standard, as well as a host of available options. The 2007 Avalanche features more power thanks to a new family of Gen IV small-block V8 engines and can tow up to 8200 lbs, yet still provides segment-leading fuel economy with consumption rivaling that of many smaller engines and vehicles thanks to enhancements like segment leading aerodynamics and Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation technology. The Avalanche also features flex-fuel capability.

Unparalleled flexibility and capability is optimized by the highly innovative Midgate which enables the cargo capacity of a pick-up including the ability to carry 4 x 8 sheet goods with the tailgate closed. XM satellite radio and OnStar, plus GM's leading coverage package, round out the value proposition.

Headquartered in Oshawa Ontario, General Motors of Canada employs more than 20,000 people nationwide. GM of Canada manufactures a variety of vehicles, engines, transmissions and other components, and markets the full range of General Motors vehicles and related services through 759 dealerships and retailers across Canada.
