Claudia DoCampo and Sergio Cuervo From GenTV's News Team Recognized for Their Coverage of the "Recall Elections"

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwire - Nov 17, 2011) - The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a prestigious nonprofit organization committed to honoring excellence in television, has named Noticias GenTV reporter, Claudia DoCampo and videographer Sergio Cuervo, as Emmy Award nominees for their coverage of the "Recall Elections." A ceremony announcing the winner will take place during the 35th Annual Suncoast Emmy Awards reception on Saturday December 3rd at the Westin Beach Resort in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Since 2006, GenTV has been bringing high quality Spanish-language television programming to the South Florida community. This is the first year that Noticias GenTV has participated and is among the nominees for the coveted Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards, which recognize excellence in television and the regions' leadership for their artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. This year there were a record 972 entries submitted from all over the region including Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia and Puerto Rico.

GenTV was nominated in the Continuing Coverage category for excellence in coverage of a single news story over an extended number of reports. The nomination recognizes work done by the WGEN-TV news team Claudia DoCampo and Sergio Cuervo for "Recall Election" which documents the historic recall process led by Miami-Dade voters that resulted in the removal of County Mayor Carlos Alvarez and Commissioner Natacha Seijas. The journalistic work includes coverage of Commissioner Seijas pushing and grabbing the microphone of journalist Claudia DoCampo, an incident which generated National and International coverage (video: Commissioner Natacha Seijas interview reaction to Noticias GenTV).

"This distinction is the result of an editorial policy representing professionalism and dedication by the professionals that work at Noticias GenTV," said Janet Lomba, News Director, Noticias GenTV.
