Geo Announces Geothermal Plans

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 22, 2009) - GEO MINERALS LTD. (TSX VENTURE:GM)(PINK SHEETS:GMNRF) (The "Company") is pleased to announce it has formed Juturna Geothermal Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary, which is designed to be a holding company for a suite of geothermal assets/prospects the Company has arranged to acquire.

Successful exploration for geothermal resources requires expertise in hydrothermal processes, structural geology, and geochemistry. To this end, Geo is pleased to announce that it is expanding its geological team to advance this corporate opportunity, by welcoming Denis L. Norton (Ph.D.) and Danny B. Sims (Ph.D.) to the advisory board.

Dr. Norton has analyzed thermal and fluid aspects of geologic processes for more than four decades. He was director of the Geochemistry Division for Kennecott Exploration, Inc., then a tenured professor in geochemistry and Guggenheim Fellow at the University of Arizona. Since 1994, he has consulted to private companies in the geothermal energy and minerals industries throughout North America. Dr. Norton has developed significant theoretical methods for understanding the systematics of hydrothermal processes and the natural resources that they produce. These concepts and their application for resource exploration and development are published in many scholarly works and special reports.

Dr. Sims is a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists, a California licensed Professional Geologist, and a member of the Arizona Bar. He has over 20 years of experience in the mining industry with emphasis in structural geology. Much of his career has been devoted to mapping and interpreting structural data for cost-effective mine design at properties including Grasberg, Kucing Liar, Cuajone, Tyrone, Chino, Thompson Creek, Sierrita, and numerous others.

Although geothermal energy is the oldest and most abundant terrestrial form of energy, the history of its use in generation of electricity is short-lived. Geothermal energy was not used to generate electricity until 1904, when five light bulbs were powered by a 3/4 horsepower generator in Lardarello, Italy. It was during the oil embargo of the late 1970's that the United States became earnest about geothermal energy development. At this time, Dr. Norton became involved with the US Department of Energy, in its attempt to quantify the country's geothermal resources.

New technologies, and the public's growing desire for clean domestic energy has put geothermal at the forefront as a source of viable alternative energy. A rush has ensued to identify geothermal resources and, as with most resource rushes, those with the greatest degree of experience are the most likely to succeed. This is the competitive advantage that Geo has for the discovery and development of geothermal resources.

Mike England, President and CEO of Geo Minerals states, "We are very excited to be entering the field of geothermal exploration. There is great potential for discovery, and we anticipate great success with the addition of these qualified, competent individuals to our advisory board. Drs. Norton and Sims will be working closely with Dr. Tom McCandless, a fellow member of the Geo advisory with over 30 years experience in geochemistry applied to resource discovery himself. We believe that their collective experience in geothermal systems, quantitative structural geology, and applied geochemistry will pay great dividends."
