George Strait's Vaqueros del Mar Invitational Golf Tournament Raises Over $2 Million for Troops First Foundation

Tapatio Springs's Fifth Annual Golf Tournament Benefits David Feherty's Troops First Foundation

BOERNE, TX--(Marketwired - November 11, 2015) - George Strait and Texas businessman Tom Cusick today announced their fifth annual Vaqueros del Mar Invitational, hosted at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort November 4-7, raised a record $618,000 at the event and is up to $750,000 following the event. Over the past five years, the annual event has raised more than $2 million for military wounded in action.

Strait and Cusick, who are joint owners of the Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort, founded the fundraiser in November 2011 to support wounded U.S. servicemen and women through David Feherty's Troops First Foundation.

The grand event finale on Saturday included a golf "Shootout", and Jam Session and Celebration Party, which featured entertainment by Ray Benson & Asleep at the Wheel, Keith Gattis, and Dean Dillon. A live auction emceed by Strait, Cusick and Feherty followed. The King of Country Music wrapped up the fun-filled evening playing many of his favorite hits, a very rare opportunity before a very intimate crowd of under 500.

"We were thrilled to raise over $750,000, another record, in our fifth year of giving back to those who serve our country," said Strait. "Giving back is a top priority for me, Tom, our friends and Tapatio Springs. We take our partners very seriously and are honored to partner with Troops First Foundation."

This year's event was also very special given the many changes that have taken place at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Report over the past year. These include $2 million worth of restoration work on the 18-hole golf course and the new $1 million pool and bar area. The Resort also revamped La Cascada Table & Bar, the onsite restaurant that boasts a fresh, farm to table menu. In addition to its own exceptional amenities, Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort offers guests close proximity to a variety of nearby adventures. It is just 10 minutes from Boerne, the "Key to the Hill Country," which is rich in Texas charm, mom-and-pop shops and nearly 150 historic buildings. A short 35-minute drive away is San Antonio, with major tourist attractions like the River Walk, SeaWorld, Six Flags, Fiesta Texas, and The Shops at La Cantera. Kayaking, horseback riding and hiking at nearby state parks are among the dozens of nearby recreational opportunities.
