Georgia Real Estate Auctions Draw Big Crowds in Sale of Bank-Owned Properties

MARIETTA, GA--(Marketwire - March 7, 2011) - The Georgia economy continued to show life last week as capacity crowds of bidders crowded into four auctions across the state. Selling at the auctions were homes, commercial buildings, land and home sites. And the 100 live bidders were joined by 88 online bidders, who listened to an audio feed of the auction and entered their bids by computer.

"In all of the auctions, we consistently had strong fields of bidders -- in person and online -- who were competing with each other to buy these properties. That tells me there's an underlying strength in the state economy, because it means there are people seeking to buy homes, investors seeking to increase their holdings, and builders seeking lots for future construction," said John Dixon, president of John Dixon & Associates, the Marietta company that managed the auctions.

The auctions resulted in about a million dollars for the sellers.

Dixon said about half of the properties sold to online bidders. "For several years, people were curious and would register to bid online, but they were reluctant to actually purchase property. They're over that now, and they're bidding head-to-head with the live bidders. This means we can reach an even larger base of bidders for our clients," said Dixon. "If this week's results don't show that online bidding by simulcast has arrived, I don't know what does."

One of the live bidders was Frank Norton, a North Georgia investor and real estate professional who has been purchasing property at John Dixon's auctions for years.

"I have to be prepared ahead of time before I raise my paddle, and John Dixon & Associates provides the depth of information I need. That gives me a leg up on my knowledge base before I walk in the door. I've been doing business with John Dixon for the better part of 20 years, and I always know their auctions will be run with a high degree of professionalism," said Norton.
