MISSISSAUGA, ON--(Marketwired - July 06, 2016) - When the City of Oakville and architects from the MBTW Group needed forty-six custom infill panels for the railing system designed for the new Tannery Hill observatory deck in Oakville, Ontario's Tannery Park, they turned to Gerard Daniel Worldwide (Canada) (www.gerarddaniel.ca) to supply them. Gerard Daniel Worldwide (GDW) is Canada's largest manufacturer, and distributor of industrial wire cloth. For the observation deck rail panels, the architectural firm specified a GDW custom mesh; a wire mesh similar to one installed at the Melon Center in Pittsburgh. The all-stainless steel panels were custom woven at the GDW headquarters in Hanover, PA, and the frames applied by the GDW Architectural Products Division. Custom fitting and mounts were completed at GDW's Mississauga facility. Scott Hume, President Gerard Daniel Worldwide (Canada), commented, "Each of our projects are orchestrated. All of our Divisions and Branches work together to produce the best quality and value for our customers. That is part of the beauty of the GDW network." The panels were ready in early 2016, and the Tannery Hill observation deck was open to the public in April.
The redevelopment of Tannery Park is the second phase of the Oakville West Harbour five-phase redevelopment master plan. Completed this spring, the observation platform atop Tannery Hill is the focal point of this phase of the project, which also includes a sculptural beacon installation, upgraded walkways, new lighting, a picnic area, interpretive signs, and naturalization plantings. The observation deck's design provides a place for visitors to sit, with an unobstructed 270-degree view of Lake Ontario, Sixteen Mile Creek, and the Oakville harbourfront.
"The new Tannery Hill observation deck and railing really turned out well. Its design is attractive, and has it is built with materials that make it functional and durable as well. The platform offers terrific views of the lake, and you can even see as far as downtown Toronto. We are proud that GDW played a part in the success of this project," says Hume.
