Get Ready New York: The Shop Brooklyn Announces Official Opening Weekend and the Launch of Pit to Plate Barbecue From Its State of the Art Smokehouse in Bushwick

BROOKLYN, NY--(Marketwired - May 21, 2015) - The wait is over for fans of Brooklyn's original "The Shop Brooklyn" as the motorcycle shop turned bar and 'cue joint gets ready for its official launch on June 5-7 in newly renovated space on the corner of Starr and Wyckoff in Bushwick.

The three-day Grand Opening weekend is Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7 to coincide with Bushwick Open Studios. Tons of delicious food as well as drink and entertainment specials will be served up all weekend long. And for the first time The Shop Brooklyn's big smoker, Riggins, will be a neighborhood feature, out front on the sidewalk serving up sausage samples and other goodies all weekend.

With a hand-crafted 5,000 square foot space, some of the best barbecue around and professionally-staged live music and dj's, The Shop Brooklyn is a great fit with Bushwick's burgeoning scene. It has a prime location directly on the Jefferson L stop (welcome back, L train!) and expects to draw customers from all over New York and beyond as a destination in its own right.

The Shop Brooklyn was conceived through the drive and passion of founder Dan Lyle. He sums it up this way: "In a way, we are going back to the 50's and 60's and the real barbecue and juke joints in Texas and throughout the South and Midwest where you could walk in to a place that feels uniquely American. These spots were community-oriented places where the music would be pumping in the back and smoke from the ribs permeated the air. A modern version of this nostalgic setting is what we are bringing to life here in Bushwick. To me it just feels like home."

He adds: "To that mix we've added our passion for riding and some of the character of the original bike shop in Williamsburg. It's the physical act of riding and how it makes you feel that I love so much. Hence the slogan "Cook Slow Ride Fast." It adds a great atmosphere and a very social vibe. But of course, you don't have to love motorcycles to come here -- you just have to love."

The Shop Brooklyn started life as a pop-up inside the motorcycle shop in Williamsburg in 2010. It quickly became a hit as Lyle cooked barbecue out front on his handmade trailer smoker -- that would be "Riggins" -- and obtained a liquor license. The idea to open a modern honky tonk/juke joint with a motorcycle shop feel was born. The new smokehouse is a state of the art facility that includes a new cast of characters (smokers and grills) called Lyla, Tammy, Smash and Saracen.

Under the experienced eye of Joe Herron, The Shop Brooklyn's bar will be among the best the Borough has to offer. Born in Donegal, Ireland, Joe is a seasoned entrepreneur who has put down deep roots in Brooklyn. He opened his first bar here in 1998, and his successful ventures now include The Crown Victoria in Williamsburg.

The Shop Brooklyn -- The Food and The Drinks

Cook slow is the key to great food at The Shop Brooklyn. At the heart of the food operation is one of the most versatile smokehouses and cooking facilities in New York City.

"The gearhead in me wanted to create a version of my dad's hot rod shop, but for my craft…making great barbecue; a place where I have the equipment to smoke all of the core barbecue meats, cold smoke and also grill items on a custom-made open flame pit. This allows me to finish the meat with extra flavor and texture. We will also be able to cook whole heritage hogs (I prefer large black hogs) and goats for cabritos. I have a passion and taste for Latin cooking, which is a great match for our neighborhood, and you will taste and see that in action in the smokehouse," Lyle says.

The focus will be on delicious food, with Dan's own recipes for sauce, seasonings and a range of comfort and healthy sides (all vegetarian, so all tastes are catered for). And, you will finally be able to buy his most unique creation: Barbecue Pistachios, the ultimate bar snack. "I think I have built my version of the old man's hot rod shop and my Uncle Jerry's hog farm…right here in the city. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they visit!"

Sample menu items include:

Barbecue beef and pork tacos on grilled flour tortillas
Hawg sandwich -- which has bits of belly, shoulder, butt and crispy skin
Three kinds of Texas Sausage
Brooklyn Sausage -- proprietary spicy pork sausage blend sold by the inch.
Whole Pork Spare Ribs -- Dan's specialty
Chicken Drumsticks
Pit Beans
Spoonbread -- where cornbread meets soufflete
The Meat Flight -- three special 'cue bites paired with a beer or spirit
Eight ice cold draft lines with every category covered
