Giant 1,000-Ft Slip-N-Slide Hits Albuquerque This June

A Massive Water Slide Is Literally Taking to the Streets Near Isotopes Park

ALBUQUERQUE, NM--(Marketwired - June 03, 2015) - A new event centered on a big waterslide will be hitting Albuquerque on the weekend of June 20th and 21st. How big? Try 1,000 feet -- the length of about three-and-a-half football fields. This is The Urban Slide.

A recent viral YouTube video shows the giant slide in action.

The Urban Slide -- More Than Just 1,000 Feet

The Urban Slide is a series of events that take place on an inclined street inside of a major U.S. city. The slide is made slippery by a unique water misting system that’s laid along the entire slide. This drastically cuts down on both water consumption and the need for soap.

And to make things even more special, The Urban Slide is held on both day and night. After the sun sets, glowing lights and inflatable tubes illuminate the scene for a truly mesmerizing night party experience. The night slide is a special option for those who want to take slip-n-sliding to the next level.

Other features and amenities of The Urban Slide will include:

  • Food trucks to give out lunch and snacks to participants and onlookers
  • Music which will play beats along the entire slide
  • A bag check area to secure footwear and other belongings as people go down the slide

One Big Slide, Many Big Options

The Urban Slide in Albuquerque will be held on 1600 Avenida Cesar Chavez SE, and will start Saturday June 20 at 10:00 AM. Registration for the event can be done by going to the event page, selecting which day of the weekend to slide, and then selecting the number of slides a participant wants to do.

People who register can slide down either once, three times, or even unlimited times in a single day depending on how many slides they registered for. The night slide option allows people to go down the glow-in-the-dark Urban Slide an unlimited amount of times.

Pricing for The Urban Slide is wildly variable and depends mainly on three factors:

1. How early a registration is made before the event begins -- the earlier the registration, the more money is saved.
2. How many times one wants to go down the slide -- more slides equals more value per slide.
3. What time of the day one wants to slide on -- day or night.

Each participant who registers receives a wristband (their “ticket” to the slide). Tubes are also required to ride The Urban Slide, and they can either be purchased at the event or participants can bring their own.

Sliding Across America

The Urban Slide plans to lay its big slide down every city in the United States. Where The Urban Slide will end up next depends on how many people pre-register for their city of choice. More pre-registrations for a city equals a higher chance that the city in question gets to experience this summer’s biggest attraction.
