Gilly's Frozen Custard Drive-In to Open in Green Bay, WI This Summer

New Store Brings 50-60 Jobs to Titletown

FOND DU LAC, WI and GREEN BAY, WI--(Marketwire - June 8, 2009) - The Gilles family is taking its famous frozen custard on the road. After 60 years in Fond du Lac, WI, Gilly's Frozen Custard Drive-In is expanding. Opening this summer in Green Bay, Gilly's is going against the grain of the economy and expanding, bringing 50-60 new jobs to Titletown. The new restaurant is located at 1860 W. Mason. The search is on for car hops, managers and cooks to serve the new customer base in Green Bay.

If you're not a Fond du Lac native, you may be wondering "What is Gilly's?" Here's a little history: In June 1949, Gilles Frozen Custard opened in Fond du Lac, WI. Founder Tom Gilles was 22 years old and paid $900 for a one-acre piece of land on the outskirts of Fond du Lac. The only catch? Tom had to take the extra land near the back of the lot. The price? FREE! The original menu consisted of custard, hot dogs (mustard, relish or both), the signature Gillyburger and root beer.

Today, sixty years later, Jim Gilles (son of founder Tom Gilles) will open a new Gilly's Frozen Custard Drive-In in Green Bay, WI. What else is new? The name! The new store will launch the new name Gilly's, spelled now as most people pronounce it. Also new to the Green Bay store is year-round dining and indoor seating for 80. Of course the signature drive-in canopy and car hops will be in place maintaining the friendly atmosphere that is central to the Gilly's experience.

This multi-generational family business has grown up with its family and its customers, who really are like extended family. The car hops have been serving the same customers and now their children and grandchildren for years. America thrives on tradition and Gilly's frozen custard is just that -- a family tradition, for the owners, the staff and their customers. The charm, the history and the food are all a part of the brand and tradition that Gilly's has built. Expanding to a new market is like giving birth to another child. Capturing the ambiance, coziness, family-oriented style and charm of the original Fond du Lac location is the main focus of the Gilles family as they prepare for opening day.

"The challenge is not only taking what we do best and doing it in a new location, but finding the right staff to execute it," said Jim Gilles. Gilly's is currently in the process of hiring 50-60 new employees for its Green Bay store. What are the requirements? Believing in the brand and being friendly and personable. "Our staff is truly an extension of our family and our car hops know our customers best," said Gilles.

Expanding in this economy is a challenge, but Gilly's is confident that the new store will build as loyal a following as the original, because once you've experienced Gilly's it becomes a part of you. "Gilly's is a habit you don't want to break!" said Gilles. "We have customers who come back to Fond du Lac on school breaks and family vacations. They can't wait to see us and we are thrilled to see our loyal customers return again and again. Gilly's is always one of their first stops!"
