Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada (GGC) celebrates Mint Monday today with the launch of its 3rd annual Chocolatey Mint Cookie Week, to promote the sale of its chocolatey mint cookie during the three-month chocolatey mint cookie fundraising campaign.

"Girl Guides of Canada chose Halifax as the site to kick off our 12th Chocolatey Mint Cookie Campaign as it is a city of firsts. The first lighthouse in Canada was erected in 1733, not far from here, in Louisburg, Nova Scotia," said Gretchen McCurdy, Chief Commissioner of Girl Guides of Canada. "In keeping with this theme, the Halifax and Dartmouth-area Girl Guides have constructed the first ever lighthouse built from chocolatey mint cookie boxes to promote this great Canadian tradition. Girl Guides of Canada have been raising funds through selling cookies for over 75 years.

"This fall's fundraising effort allows us to create and maintain exciting programs for girls and young women that are not only challenging but also promote learning, leadership, fun, friendships and adventures for Girl Guides across Canada," added McCurdy. "Every Guiding group in the country directly benefits from our cookie sales."

Chocolatey Mint Cookie Week runs from October 17 to 23. Sales activities and locations vary across the country. Available for $4.00 a box, cookies will be sold until the end of December or while quantities last.

Girl Guide chocolatey mint cookies are baked in a nut-free/peanut-free facility by Dare Foods, Ltd., a Canadian-owned bakery. The cookie features a decadent chocolate base and a creamy, white mint filling enrobed in a chocolatey coating.

In addition to selling chocolatey mint cookies in the fall, Girl Guides sells its traditional chocolate and vanilla sandwich cookies in the spring. Last year, Girl Guides of Canada sold over 2 million boxes of chocolatey mint cookies nationwide.
