Give Hunger a Voice

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - May 5, 2014) - Starting Monday, May 5 and through May 9 Hunger Awareness Week will be raising awareness about the solvable problem of hunger in Canada. Food banks across the country recognize this national initiative by hosting events and telling the story of the work they do to alleviate food insecurity in their community.

The Calgary Food Bank is no exception and we have a number of diverse events to mark this important week:

Empty Bowl Benefit
Monday, May 5 to Thursday, May 15 online auction at
Bid on uniquely painted bowls from local sports, media and celebrity personalities. Funds raised support the Calgary Food Bank's JP Morgan Food Link program that provides food and supplies to 110+ agencies so that they may focus on their services rather than sourcing food.
Scotts' Gro for Good
Wednesday, May 7, 9 AM at the Calgary Food Bank (5000-11 St SE)
The distribution of lettuce growing seed kits to clients and member agencies to help equip food bank clients with the supplies and knowledge to grow some of their own vegetables this summer.
Volunteer Dinner
Thursday, May 8
Annual volunteer appreciation and long service recognition event.
