Give What You Grow and support FCC Drive Away Hunger

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - Aug. 19, 2013) - Canadian agriculture producers have a unique opportunity to support FCC Drive Away Hunger, by committing to donate their products or cash proceeds from their products to the Give What You Grow Program.

"Canadian ag producers pride themselves on providing safe and nutritious food not only to fellow Canadians, but for people throughout the world," said Ron Podbielski, FCC Vice-President of Communication and Corporate Social Responsibility. "They're also some of our strongest supporters of Drive Away Hunger. So why not help them share their product with some of the people who need it most - the people who rely on food banks."

As part of FCC Drive Away Hunger, the Give What You Grow program enables producers to pledge a portion of their product not yet harvested or, in the case of livestock, not yet ready for market.

"We will find a way to assist all producers who want to donate through this program," said Brenda Stasuik, FCC's Director of Corporate and Social Responsibility. "For example, we will put a cattle producer who wants to donate a cow to a local food bank in touch with a partner who can process and package the meat. Our goal is to ensure the food bank is able to accept all donations to help feed those who are less fortunate."

Interested producers are encouraged to call 1-855-427-6207 for more information and to sign up.

Give What You Grow was introduced as a pilot program in Manitoba in conjunction with the 2012 FCC Drive Away Hunger initiative. Originally called Donate an Acre, the program was designed for crop producers. Expanding the program to Give What You Grow helps other producers across the country participate in this one-of-a kind opportunity to support food banks throughout Canada.
