Glass Sculptor Loretta Hui-shan Yang, Co-Founder of Liuli Gongfang, Now Visiting United States to Teach and Unveil Works Based on New Method

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - September 7, 2010) -  Renowned Chinese glass artist and sculptor Loretta Hui-shan Yang, co-founder of Liuli Gongfang, will be in the United States for three weeks this month for several special events, including the North American debut in San Francisco of Liuli's exceptional new series, Silence Within Fire, which combines the techniques of pâte-de-verre sculpture and blown glass to create a remarkable new modality in glass art.

This week, according to Jon Grodem, an official for Luili's U.S. operations, Ms. Yang is making her first visit to the Corning Museum of Glass in Elmira, N.Y., to lead a class in pâte-de-verre (loss-wax) sculpture in a course titled, "Explorations in Glass Casting." The course will offer a comprehensive introduction to the pâte-de-verre method, which, unlike blown glass, has the advantage of allowing precise placement of glass colors and shapes in a sculpture mold. The course, from Sept. 6-11, is offered through The Studio, the museum's teaching arm.

After leaving the Corning Museum on Sept. 11, Ms. Yang will fly to San Francisco to prepare for the September 15 debut of Silence Within Fire at Liuli Gallery, where she will be joined for this invitation-only event by her colleague and Liuli co-founder Mr. Chang Yi as well other Liuli associates. The Liuli Gallery is located at 37 Yerba Buena Lane, between Market and Mission Streets.

Silence Within Fire is the third and most advanced stage of Luili exploration in flowers and feature Luili's new Lost-wax Blown Glass Technique, which, according to Grodem, "fuses the intricate details of pâte-de-verre sculpture with the graceful elegance of blown glass. The results are nothing less than spectacular in composition and color."

According to Luili, Ms. Yang and Mr. Yi will be leaving the U.S. for Asia by September 23. Background on Liuli Gongfang and pâte-de-verre is available by visiting www.liuli.com/en-us/index.aspx and www.liuliusa.com.
