Global Defensive Equity: The Russell Global Defensive Index Outperformed the Russell Global Index for 1, 3, 5 & 10 Yrs as of February 21st

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - Feb 25, 2013) - The Russell Global Defensive Index has outperformed its parent the Russell Global Index, in some periods by two percent or more, over the last decade. The Index returned 12.8% for one year, 12.9% for three years (annualised), 7.0% for five years (annualised) and 8.3% for ten years (annualised) as of February 21st, 2013. 

"The Russell Global Defensive Index identifies and ranks securities based on sensitivity to economic cycles, credit cycles and market volatility, factors that we collectively refer to as stability. The Index measures the performance of the most stable global stocks exhibiting characteristics of higher quality and lower volatility," said Phil Hoffman, global equity portfolio manager with Russell Investments. "Historical performance of the index helps support the conviction that an actively managed global equity portfolio of more stable defensive stocks has the potential for superior risk and reward characteristics over time."
